If a R is elected president, FOX will never speak of this again. All will be fantastic with the military.

And... now you fools are primed to increase funding for this while slashing funding for everything else.

Welcome to being gamed. How does it feel?

That's an incredibly wide brush you're painting with, frickstain.

Everything should be evaluated on a cost/efficiency basis. How much are we spending on this? What is it being spent on? Is there a more efficient way to spend this money?

There are always better/more efficient ways for the government to spend our money, but they are rarely used. There are too many influenced interests and inflated egos involved in decisions of utmost importance. The cycle will continue as long as the current self-serving clowns retain their seats.

There are too many bloviating opportunists serving under the guise of "conservative" and "democrat" senator/representative who care nothing about their ideals or those of their constituents; their only concern is the perks of the job and maintaining said job/perks.

How efficient is replacing major parts on planes that are 10+ years past their expected service life?

Fox News. That's all that needs to be said. The super rich are using propaganda to try and line their own pockets with government contracts and purchase orders. It's absolutely insane how much money our military wastes with inefficient practices.

But let's keep fighting to hand 1%ers more of our tax dollars.

But you probably don't realize you've just spouted off fringe propaganda. It's always the other guy, eh?

Are you that obtuse, to think that only Fox News aligned (aka right wing) individuals are trying to line their pockets with government contracts?

And it's only a minor detail his squadron is flying 30 year old aircraft that should have been retired thousands of hours ago. But hey, even there, there's a silver lining. With the drastic cuts in training flights (not to mention only 2 of their fighters can even fricking fly right now) those old birds will last a long time.

The basic airframe may be 30 years old, but unless that has issues with corrosion or cumulative stress it can fly forever. Just like the B52, there have been several radar/avionics, engine, and weapon system upgrades. As long as the primary mission the plane was designed for is the same age is not that much of a factor, the T38 is still used as the primary Air Force supersonic trainer, and for training of NASA astronauts yet the newest one was built in 1972.

The U.S just placed an order for 35 more F/A-18's this year.

That is a curious timing on that story.
Although I don't quite know all the politics behind it, I don't see why that squadron is robbing parts from museum pieces when those aircraft are built in St. Louis MO. Are they not allowed to req parts for shortages?

It's the reality across all the services, I can't speak as much to not having money for supplies, but with the hour increase. They decide to slash forces, but the work tempo is going to remain, ops are going to remain, and productivity is only expected to increase. No one realizes that stupidity of this all, and every chance someone gets to pad their annual report by including some stupid arse additional step or requirement they will gladly take. Common sense be damned

that's why force reduction has stopped

and now we are being told they are going to hit the recruiting trail hard.

they literally asked AD members what should be done and then ignored them.

A big chunk of military spending goes to projects classified as military but they really aren't, so that number posted is extremely bloated. I think it was Rand Paul that brought this up a couple times when he was campaigning and everyone acted like he was insane for not wanting to increase military spending.

Let's see. They interview the commander of a Marine Corps F/A-18,squadron. His squadron is equipped with 30 year old planes, already thousands of hours over what they were designed to fly. And his squadron is down to only TWO operational planes due to breakdowns. And things are so bad, they've had to resort to cannibalizing parts off other aircraft in the squadron and have even had to cannibalize museum planes as well. Oh, and on top of all of that, they've cut training flying hours by 50%.

Excellent.

But yes. Everything is hunky-fricking-dorry.,

The more the global war machine and the moneyed interests behind it break down and dissolve, the better the hope for the human race. War never has and never will solve the problems that humans are facing collectively now. It is time for people the world over to reform their thinking, consciousness, and their political and social institutions. If we learned anything from the Twentieth Century it was that war solves nothing and creates a whole new host of problems. I don't know why it is so hard for so many conservative bent human beings to see that. That rigid thinking is what got us into this global mess we find ourselves in and that mess is largely a result of the meddling of the US, British and Israeli governments to further global economic and military hegemony largely at the behest of military contractors and multinational oil companies. As Albert Einstein said " The problems that humanity currently face cannot be solved with the same level of thinking that created them in the first place".

I am too. Any truly compassionate society would spend much more to help the citizens of that society than continue to massively fund redundant weapons of mass destruction. What we have right now is a societal attitude and government that goes against the very principles that this country was supposedly founded on. It's laughable hypocrisy. This country's government and people worship money, power and celebrity in a nutshell. That is a recipe for disaster and the very reason we will get exactly what we deserve as a nation until at some point in time we get money out of politics and start electing leaders who have some wisdom, vision and morality about themselves. Until that happens and the people demand change, expect more of the same.

Anyone who argues about us spending so much more on defense than other nations doesn't know history very well. When one nation dominates the others, long term peace is virtually assured. When countries have equal military might, wars break out and the human tole is much greater. Spare me the whinny "fairness" indoctrinated spewing.

Since when can you make a generalization about the Marine Corps based upon their air component?
