My unit didn't have enough money to shoot a rifle qual this year. This is an infantry unit we're talking about.
Yet we're still spending retarded amounts of money trying to get females in the infantry. Awesome.

The US spends the most of any country on its military budget. In fact, we spend more on defense than the next seven countries combined. How much is enough?

Our military is the exact reason why we're the world's biggest power.

Somehow people fail to realize that

It's really hilarious. You think other places didn't attack Rome because of their democracy? No, it's cause they knew it'd be a suicide mission if they did.

Maybe if we didn't spend so much on defense we could cut the deficit.
Well gee, I think there is a candidate calling for those other countries to pony up some more money so we don't have to foot the majority of the bill. But he's been called a lunatic. (Well, actually there are two calling for this. One is a lunatic - Bernie.)
These charts are very misleading, since we have to subsidize a good bit of the countries lack of spending on the left side of this chart.

That's kind of obvious.

I don't know anything about this story, but I have a friend who always had the dream of joining the marines. He finally did so and quickly became disillusioned by what it had become. He got out after a few years. It was surprising, because he had talked about joining up since he was ten. Sad to see things going in this direction.

This is on par for just about 99% of people that are in the Marines.
Well enlisted at least. I don't frick around with officers.

You guys should look up our nuclear arsenal. We use bombers near 60 years old and land and sea missiles about 40-50 years old.
Eta: part of me agrees our allies should pay more but then part of me says the more we pay for their defense the more say we have over their affairs. Plus, do you remember last time European states were defending themselves?
Eta 2: it's kind of crazy how old some of our stuff is yet how advanced other parts are. For all the F 35s problems.. To have it flying in the same force as the B52 is really something

Our branches could probably afford better equipment if it weren't for all the bloat
Posted on 4/14/16 at 9:56 pm to Byron Bojangles III
Useless stat unless you also include a comparison of the cost of products/services in those countries. This especially when military products have to be made in the US. You think the Chinese and Russians aren't making huge efforts to upgrade their militaries? Just go look at all the development the Chinese are doing in the South China Sea.

Things are bad. Training is being slashed, equipment is old and worn out. Squadrons are virtually combat ineffective due to down aircraft
How much would it cost to give every Marine a pair of Chic jeans and a ball peen hammer?

Let's see. They interview the commander of a Marine Corps F/A-18,squadron. His squadron is equipped with 30 year old planes, already thousands of hours over what they were designed to fly. And his squadron is down to only TWO operational planes due to breakdowns. And things are so bad, they've had to resort to cannibalizing parts off other aircraft in the squadron and have even had to cannibalize museum planes as well. Oh, and on top of all of that, they've cut training flying hours by 50%.
But yes. Everything is hunky-fricking-dorry.,
but we still have an air force, right?

And... now you fools are primed to increase funding for this while slashing funding for everything else.
