Perhaps they were not st the age recommended for the vaccine.

Those are usually protected by herd immunity, but that doesn’t work when idiots don’t vaccinate their kids.

I’m not sure the govt can force vaccines on people, but I would be in full favor of those Kids if antivaxers not being allowed into pilnlc schools, parks etc.

Maybe we should divide the US into smaller portions, like provinces or something, then if that province wants to enforce harsh vaccination laws, they could IAW the 10th amendment...

Nah, that'd never work, the Fed would jus eat them up

Considering the child that died was 4months and you first get the meningitis vaccine at 11yrs old, I'm going to say No.

Again, this is false.

You get the MENINGOCOCCAL vaccine at that age.

That is a specific type of bacteria that causes meningitis.

That is NOT the only bacteria that causes meningitis.

There is a vast number of organisms that cause meningitis.

Infants get vaccinated against the bacteria that causes meningitis most commonly in their age group (most common being Streptococcus pneumoniae), with the first vaccine for it at 2 months.

There is no reference as to whether the unvaccinated individual was a child or adult.

They also make no statement as to whether the bacteria was the one that you vaccinate against later in life or the more common ones that infants get.

People, ask your child’s pediatrician what the vaccines are for. It is important that you understand what you are protecting them from and the importance of each one.

Meningitis vaccines usually aren't given till adolescence - this is a strange story.

Scruffy, tell me in third person why I'm wrong. I'm definitely pro-vax, I'm just confused since daycare-aged kids usually aren't vaccinated for meningococcal in the first place.

Scruffy, after going through a thread like this, do you ever get the feeling that your medical training is only serving to thwart Darwin?

Meningococcal vaccine is for a specific bacteria.

It isn’t for all “meningitis”.

Meningitis itself is literally “inflammation of the meninges”.

That can be caused by a vast number of bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc.

The bacteria that cause meningitis are usually grouped by age, since some occur more commonly in certain age groups.

Neisseria meningitides, the bacteria targeted by the meningococcal vaccine, does not commonly occur in infants, which is why the vaccine is given at an older age.

Streptococcus pneumoniae is the most common in this infant’s age group. Another is Haemophilus influenza type B.

Infants are vaccinated for both of those at a very young age. They are receiving meningitis vaccines.

Could it have been meningococcal meningitis? Absolutely. The description in the article sound like meningococcemia, but they do not state which bacteria it was.

All Scruffy wants to correct is this idea that children do not receive meningitis vaccines until adolescence.

That is false.

They are vaccinated against certain causes of meningitis starting at the age of 2 months.

Hence why it is important to vaccinate your children.

Thanks Scruffy. Your posts are always informative and charming.

I was really only familiar with meningococcal; freaked me out enough not to drink after people.

Also I didn't see the post right above mine. Thank you for being so patient with the medically limited

Vaccines truly are an amazing thing.

We have reached a point in human history where we can affectively erase certain diseases.

That is utterly amazing.

Keep up to date on your vaccinations.

Why are we pretending this fits in the anti vaccine category?

The first vaccine that is recommended (not required barring waivers) is at 11.

Edit: see how other people got on this line of thought. Carry on.

You can not deny that vaccinations have eradicated many illnesses that our ancestors had to deal with. At the same time, there are way to many vaccine injuries being hidden by doctors and pharmaceutical companies. Follow the money.

I know of 5 cases of children I am close too, including our pediatrician’s grandson, that where thriving hitting every milestone and suddenly showed symptoms of autism after vaccines.

What you have to do is pray about and discern what is best for you and yours and be willing to accept the consequences if there are any with either choice. Hopefully, through time and research we will see improvements in vaccine injuries. What I know for sure, burying our heads in the sand and pretending there are no issues with vaccines is not the answer.
