Need to tear down and rebuild with design that greatly prevents theft. Multiple doors and hallways for exit that can be locked on both sides to hold in a thief until police arrive.

It's not the imports doing this. Nice try though.

Cheap Chinese stuff getting more expensive. Amazon and Dollar General.

Tight margins even tighter when people stealing.

quote:

In 2015, Fortune cited that Walmart loses roughly $3 billion annually to theft or about 1 percent of its annual sales. For fiscal 2021, Walmart reportedly generated $559 billion in revenue, which means it may have suffered more than $5 billion in losses stemming from theft.

This, and it's causing WalMart to close more stores in more cities with rampant theft crimes taking place.

Full sized store closings:

Minneapolis
Atlanta
Honolulu

Say it without saying it Wal-Mart

There is an Atlanta Walmart in the next neighborhood over.

The local news has shared the cries of the poor who can't easily travel the extra 7 miles to get cheap Chinese goods.

But it is only a desert in the sense that is no longer in the backyard. It is inconvenient.

But if Walmart doesn't exercise good business, it goes out of business (hello Kmart, sears, shopping malls)

And Mayor Beetlejuice did the usual Lib action of issuing threats to WM, Whole Foods, Aldi (WF and Aldi are pulling out of Southside Chicagostan too.) Nothing quite like threats to encourage business/industry to come to, or remain in, a locale. I.e.: "come here or else!" In this case, else what? Lose more $millions and prevent shareholders from a ROI that they should have, or, retain the money other locations earned . Tough choice!

It's easy to blame Lightfoot, but these locations may have toughed it out a little longer if Vallas had been elected.

Instead, the city elected the commie who doesn't pay his water bills or parking tickets and whose entire platform was based on taxing corporations and the "wealthy", and defunding police.

The apathetic three-quarters of the city who stayed home on election day allowed this to happen.

Interesting little spike of where Covid money went…lots of TVs and other purchases bought up inventory they couldn’t replace cheaper.

The operating decline is just a continuation of what was happening g pre Covid.

So two Walmarts are closing in Atlanta.

Used to be only Tuskegee had the honor of closing a Walmart due to theft. Whatever crime you permit, you will get more of.

If this keeps up, we will see stores reverting to the old Service Merchandise model, but with an app.

And I would be willing to bet that almost half of the stolen merchandise is directly or indirectly related to their employees
