Found out yesterday that I have a whole other side of the family in New Zealand

Apparently my Grandfather had him a time while in the Marine Corp. A women contacted my father via Facebook looking for information about the man in the picture. She said The man was her Grandfather. The picture was a familiar one. It was one a friend had taken of him while in New Zealand drunk with hat and cane. He arrived there in June 1942 with the 1st Marine Divsion before shipping out to Guadalcanal. I believe he returned to New Zealand a few times between Island Hops at Tarawa and Saipan but was shot on Tinian and was sent to San Diego after recovering in Hawaii. I don't believe he knew he had a daughter in New Zealand.

The world is getting smaller.
I know there are many stories like these, hopefully people dont start asking for child support 80 years after the fact

I'd love to go see them but I don't fly and to fly clear across the Pacific Ocean.....frick that.

She knew my grandfather's first and last name. So I guess she just started searching the last name on Facebook.

DFW to Honolulu is about 8 hours flight time. Take a pit stop there, and fly the 9 hours to Auckland when you're ready. Use the Hopper app to see when flights are cheapest. I'd do it just to go and get their rugby secrets and learn the Haka.

Why not?
My mom wont fly because she has a severe peanut allergy and is scared.

I fly to Asia Pacific areas several times a year. Usually no problem except Korean grandmas always pushing their way off the airplane. You should go. New Zealand is great.

New Zealand’s gonna be a hell of a drive. Might want to pack a lunch.

So your dad has a sister he didn’t know about? That’s kinda cool.

Was on a Southwest flight yesterday where they announced they would not serve peanuts during that flight bc someone on board had a severe peanut allergy. Never seen that before.

Yeah and of course she has children and grandchildren. Her mother is passed but I believe but her mother's sister is still alive and remembers my Grandfather.

Are there plans for genetic testing to confirm?
I assume they want to meet all of you, right?
