Do you have her name. I’m a photo geek myself and would love to do some research about her.

Wow really cool photo and story Austar. Great share.

My son and I went on a Band of Brothers tour a few years ago. When I was researching the trip I saw where a lot of these companies offer similar trips to Vietnam designed around vets touring their old battlefield and encampment sites. Might be a cool bucket list thing for you to try and walk where your dad walked if it's even possible. Just a thought.

Either way, thanks for taking the time to post your picture and story.

Dad signed up, did two tours, served 20yrs. Army was his life. After service he was a contractor designing training exercises. Last stop was Polk. NEVER discussed Nam. On his deathbed in a Shreveport he was somewhere else. I told him I was watching the Burns doc on Vietnam. He said he didn’t need to see it, he was there. Stared off in to space and said “My job was killing people and I was damn good at it…”

Later found out from some of his Americal buddies he was in a bird dog. Shot down twice and was one of the best in Americal. Also was at Mei Lei and if I looked through enough pics I’d find him.

Terrible what those vets carried with them and, for the most part, never discussed. Get teary thinking about it.

God bless you Dad and all the vets that gave an unrepayable service to this country.

This post almost made me tear up a couple of times. To all of yall's family members who served our country, God bless! If they are no longer with us, may they forever rest in peace. Great OP and great thread.
