He's probably not use to boarding like normal people.
Just forgot to unload his gun, that's all, nothing to see here...

Oops.
Maybe he was taking it to a meeting with Hillary Clinton. To try to help the country out. If so drop the charges.

My guess is this is one of two things:
- He was actually arrested at the ticket counter, trying to check a gun, legally.
- He has some "honorary state trooper" badge and thought he could use that to bypass firearm rules through the checkpoint.

JACKSON — Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour said he will pay a fine after being arrested with a loaded handgun in his briefcase as he went through an airport security checkpoint.
Barbour — Republican National Committee chairman in the mid-1990s and governor from 2004-12 — told The Associated Press on Wednesday he was trying to board a flight Jan. 2 from Jackson to Washington. He said he forgot he was carrying the gun, which he had put in his briefcase after an assistant removed it from his car days earlier.
Looks like the Jackson airport. I thought they arrested you if you weren't carrying a gun in Jackson?

They don't verify that the gun is unloaded at the counter. They just make you sign a document that stipulates that it's in a locked case and unloaded. At least that's how it's always worked when I've traveled with a gun. Different airlines may have different rules.

Seems to me if you're carrying for self defense, having it in a briefcase is of very limited use.

CSB: One time I was sitting on the the tarmac in Atl waiting to fly to Jackson. Our plane was being held up for reasons unbeknownst to us passengers. Finally the door opens up and in comes Gov. Haley Barbour, making what was some sort of emergency flight back to Landmass. I didn't recognize him at first but most of the blue haired business men I was sharing first class with did, and some jumped up immediately offering their seat in exchange for the coach ticket he had in his hand. Not me, I just sipped my vodka tonic and watched the spectacle. In the end Haley declined their invitation and went on back to his coach seat with the poors.

I was referring to his location. Some states with strict gun laws won't even let you check a gun. But he was apparently at GTR which is arguably the most redneck airport in the US

Probably carries and just forgot. Happens in ATL all the time. Business guys carry in their briefcase daily and somehow forget to take out when going on a trip.
I triple check mine because I've read about it so often.
