The chase was going south on HWY 1, but this dumbass takes off like a bat out of hail going north on HW 1. His actions made 0 sense.
When the accident happened the officer involved was the first cop car behind the suspect. Everyone was headed north on LA1.
Not defending anyone just the way I read your post you have multiple facts wrong.

Hitting the intersection at 86 mph without even touching the brakes is insanity. I usually support cops in most situations but what he did is indefensible, imo.
10 years is firm but fair given what happened.
There are legitimately violent criminals in the urban districts that barely get a slap on the wrist if they get prosecuted at all - but that is a major dysfunction that has to be addressed itself. It shouldn’t be used to justify a light penalty in a criminal negligence case.
The crash happened in Clayton’s district. They just used RICO statutes to prosecute gang members for a murder case. They are pretty tough on crime there. What they may struggle with is compensating police officers fairly, providing adequate training, developing a cohesive pursuit policy, and making sure that their cops can handle themselves in high stress situations.

I could tell one of the victim's Dad was giving it a hard thought while giving his victim impact. His body language and mannerisms had me thinking there was definitely a possibility he may run at him, but he held it together. He was a big guy too.

I recently saw an Addis cop well out of jurisdiction traveling northbound at a high rate of speed on LA1. I had to shake my head on that one

This is correct based on the video from WBRZ.

But what's the difference between him and say someone who runs a red-light because they don't want to miss their flight or something like that?
He should have been extensively trained with regards to chase protocol and chase policies for his department. He is not the average citizen in a hurry.
