It's all a matter of how many you're willing to see die to get the job done, goofball. Thinking you may be too dense to have this discussion.

Third leg is a typical progressive. Hates america.

I would ask how we had managed to do it without nukes since the revolution, considering we have been engaged in military operations from that point forward.
maybe you can award yourself some more posting accolades because you certainly won't be winning any from anyone else today.

WWII comes down to two things. Germany decided to invade Russia in the middle of Winter which was mistake one as tanks are virtually useless in the snow and mountains. Second was Japan jumped the gun when bombing Pearl Harbor as they were suppose to wait until Russia was conquered but pride got in the way. The bombing is what brought the US into an active role in the war. If Japan waits, we might all be speaking German.

I don't even know what a progressive is supposed to be.
And no, I don't like war, which is what we do best.
I'm more Creedence Clearwater Revival than Sk8r hipster.

quote:Not to any significant degree. Some involved in the blast who weren't killed developed cancer. This was not genetically passed on nor contagious. There's not a single case of someone not involved in the blast dying from fallout radiation. And there were hundreds of thousands brought in for relief, recovery, and rebuilding.
That said, do you disagree that the fallout existed in an on-going form?

I wonder why nobody else has ever used them.

The eye for an eye maxim never ceases to amaze me. War is ugly, I get it. shite goes down, mistakes are made. But I have always struggled to rationalize how people thought we were within reason to drop two nukes on these frickers.
We were dealing with a savage, ruthless enemy that was determined to slaughter or enslave anyone who didn't meet their standard.
We were within reason to drop 200 nukes.

OP, I wouldn't live here, with all of us terrorist pieces of shite. I'd move, or at least have the stones to find the nearest VFW and tell all of them there what terrorists we were for nuking Japan.
I think you have me confused with someone else posting in this thread......I just posted the link because it's interesting, never once said anything negative about the US or the military.

we got to it first. if japan had it, they would have used it, too. do you doubt that?

That's because you had the luxury of being born 40 years after the fact and cannot relate to the pressures and circumstances brought to bear on those faced with that decision. You don't know and will never know the gravity of that time.

Don't try to make Creedence Clearwater Revival a part of your un-Americanism!

I think this statement holds water, and I have acknowledged this already.
To that point, it's dangerous to think like that with frequency. Under those guidelines, few criticisms shall ever be made.

Think: Iwo Jima x 1000000 = Fun times.

That's fine, thoughtful criticism is fine, but you don't have to come to the conclusion that it was the "greatest act of terror ever" if you can't truly know the time and situation.

You seem to be very ignorant on this. You can read Truman's diary and how he struggled with it. You can read how many of the top officials pushed for a demonstration rather than a direct bombing, until they realized this wouldn't work. You can read about how we made an agreement with Britain that we would ask their permission first (and we did).
Most of all, you can read about the logistics of the war and really come to understand how necessary it was. Feel free to form your own opinions from there. For now, you seem ignorant on the topic. Which isn't an insult, I'm ignorant on automotive repair. Everyone's ignorant on most things.

well isn't that a convenient out. i like your selective apathy. you use it to shrug off whether or not our enemy would have done the same to us, but it's nowhere to be found when making outlandish judgements about a time and situation you've had the fortune to never participate.

I'm a Missourian. Say what you will about Missourians, but never question our knowledge about Truman, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Mark Twain. We spend more time on those subjects than students in most other states.
We also are taught that Third Leg is an uneducated idiot.

Ignorant? Look at my sig, brochacho.
I wouldn't imagine US leaders to support any other position.
I also hold America to higher standards than Japanese terrorists. The problem that I see is nobody else does. They did it first - reminiscent of the "bush did it" crap everyone derides.
