Sold a car on FB. Met at a local police station and exchanged cash for the title. No issues.

heard stories recently of very legit looking $ being used to scam sellers.

They have the money tester pens. They can be beat apparently, but it's better than nothing.

Money tester pens with the UV light are pretty cheap and extremely effective.

I have a shop in Brooklyn and there have been tons of fake 20s and 100s going around the past few years.

If any of the fakes have been professional enough to beat the UV light, the bank has been fooled when I deposited them too.

Zelle, payment verified in my account before they get the item.

I have seen a sharp uptick of people asking if I take Venmo, Zelle, etc but I'm old fashioned about adopting those so far even though I'm usually an early adopter of new tech in most other areas.

I've sold lots of things on FBM and CL with a cash-only stipulation. For high $ items like vehicles, I've agreed to meet them at my bank for exchange of funds but have also taken cash in hand and made a copy of their drivers license and signed bill of sale including their name, address, phone number. While it's never been a problem, my thought was if any of the cash turned out to be fake I'd turn them over to police and report the vehicle as stolen.
