I'm not looking to shame gays or put them outside of the mainstream, but it's a relatively uncommon preference/lifestyle that somewhat disrupts the natural order.
I'd call that abnormal but perhaps there is some scientific reason for not doing so. I assume something can be naturally occurring while still being abnormal.

Fair point, and certainly everyone maybe has their own parameters for what is normal. In this discussion though, I think “abnormal” carries some negative connotations with it. Historically speaking, homosexuals were often ostracized from their communities, churches, and families because they weren’t deemed normal. And to an extent, it is still happening today.
And these discussions often get distilled down to the sexual acts in homosexuality, where anal sex between two guys is deemed abnormal, gross and unnatural, while anal sex between a man and a woman isn’t met with that same disgust, and in some cases it is even celebrated. Same with oral sex.

Most people you’re talking about are lemmings who have no thoughts of their own other than who “their” people are. Basically, most sociologists or whatever scientists analyze this data for a living will tell you that in our brains, we have ~150 spots for “our” people, and everybody else is “them.”
Blacks, Muslims, immigrants, LGBT...that’s all “them” to a lot of people in our bubble. It’s easy to keep these people hating the people they’re told to hate. You can see several of them in this thread.

The biggest problem with judging others is the expertise of the judgers. Some just don't have a knack for it, others can pick up tells pretty quickly. You sir are the latter.

I'm not qualified to opine on the science here, but I think in a vacuum where nobody would read into it as hatred, you could make a decent case that there are increased physical/non-social problems that accompany homosexuality.
Honestly, I think most reasonable people would respond favorably to homosexuality being treated like any other abnormality. "This is who I am, I'm making the best of it, sure in some ways it isn't ideal but I don't make excuses for who I am, etc." I personally think going beyond that, to celebration, is silly. If it's an immutable characteristic I'm not sure what we're taking pride in. That said, it doesn't usually offend me that people want to celebrate it (so long as it doesn't require that I do so).
The reality is most of us have physical limitations, a crossed wire, we're into something uncommon, etc. Most of those things aren't held up by society as something deserving of praise, though (although they might increasingly be that way - obesity, etc.).
I don't think a civilized society is one that takes something abnormal and labels it normal. I think a civilized society says "we'll make sure there is space for the abnormal in society, we'll encourage/help you to get assistance if it's required, and we'll work to make sure you're not victimized on account of it." Of note, I'm speaking on a citizenry/social level rather than any role of government here.
