Say there are 100,000 tourists in the city each week. For more than 0.01% of them to be victims of crime there would have to be at least 1000 (derp 10, stupid me) victims each week. You think that's happening?
ETA: Derp math on my part. I'd still like to see the 10 every week.

A very very low percentage of people in this city are ever a target of a crime ..

Are you kidding me right now?
100,000 x .01% is freaking 10 people man. Not 1,000. Good lord.

And there are double that amount of tourists in the city each week

I agree there's alot of hyperbole here, but at the same time watching these videos definitely makes me second guess wandering these areas like I usually do.
I lived in the quarter for 3 years and never had so much as a person mean mug me. And i surely was an easy target on many occasions heading back from bars.
That being said, it's still alarming and people need to be vocal about it to enact change. Let's not just sit here and act like all is well simply because we haven't been a victim. That can change quickly.
I'm not going to quit enjoying my city, but at the same time I'm not going to support politicians that turn a blind eye to it, and I'm not going to blame people who don't want to come here after watching videos like that.

I hope that remains the case to be honest. But one data point in a city full of hundreds of thousands is pretty immaterial to the conversation.

I'm in downtown Detroit right now.
It's actually a completely different place than it was even 3-4 years ago.
I have no reservations about walking around here right now.

So 20 victims every week. I don't see that many reported, but I suppose it could be happening.
Posted on 6/27/17 at 12:26 pm to Y.A. Tittle
I would say WAY less than 1% of people in NOLA are ever a victim of crime

I didn't care if the monuments came down or not.
I just think that Mitch didn't either. He used it as a platform to vault himself into the national discussion, and has ignored completely the cities issues.
This is common knowledge, but he has used the monuments to redirect the masses from the real issues, because he has NO frickING CLUE how to solve them

actual numbers JUST got posted. And i didn't look into the link much but i'll take your word for it.
It really doesn't matter what the % is. It's WAY too often and again if you want to risk the quarter feel free. But i won't and while i'll certainly always encourage NO to people it's to the point you really should be telling them to avoid the quarter at least.

I haven't looked at the numbers for this year but there were like 20,000 crimes per year committed in the city (actually a little less than that but it's a good round number) in 2014 - 2016 .... considering the amount of people that are in New Orleans at any one time - that is a pretty low percentage ... you have a better change of being a victim of crime in many other neighboring parishes.
