Dead center. My dad and brother worked at uranium processing facilities. there is two black dots on the map for them.

know that North Dakota had them, less sure about Colorado / Wyoming / Nebraska border.
Colorado has Cheyenne mountain. Aka NORAD. The bunker under that mountain is probably the safest place to be during a nuclear event. That’s why there’s so many concentrated on that area. I assume to basically make it impossible to leave if not totally just through even the ridiculous measures they have there.
Not sure about Montana and North Dakota. But I’m very curious

Missile silos.
The coordinates are on Wiki if you ever want to look at them.

Yep. But I’ve always assumed we’d be close to a major strike due to proximity to places like Ft. Knox.

We weren't just close we were the target.

Pretty sure that little black dot west of Atlanta is Plantation Pipeline in Bremen, GA.
I always heard growing up there were missiles pointed at them

I’m surprised they designated 7 triangles for Louisiana. Thank God this never happened. It would be so scary seeing the news bulletin and hearing the alarms just waiting for your impending death

The Soviets must have thought their targeting computer would frick up if a missile was targeted for Moscow, Idaho.

If you have an hour to kill, here's an Air Force training film from the fifties about a hypothetical nuclear war. Interesting and creepy at the same time. LINK

If you’re gonna launch 500 nukes, what’s the harm with 1500 more?

....so you’ve decided to launch a first strike.

Apparently this is a map of US Cold War targets, with dots separated by country (modern borders).

As far as the black dots go just above BR, I'm assuming that is Riverbend Nuclear.
I'm guessing Big Cajun is the other, although it seems like you could get both with one missile.

Bossier City was a top 3 target for the Soviets, SAC Command, maybe #1

Grew up knowing we'd be one of the first to get cooked given we had 6 military installations with 30 miles of us.

I daho is the place to be. You can tell where our launch sites are based on black clusters

The Exxon refinery in BR was always a major target.
Yep.
BR was always a first-strike objective.

Baton Rouge did to itself what the Soviets were never able to accomplish.

Why are St Francisville and New Roads both separate targets, but Alexandria is only 1?
