I almost made 2 years with my company, then massive layoffs started.
The company before I made 2 years, but they shut down.
Ive just either had bad timing or the economy.

I would have loved to stay with either company and get the expierence i needed to take the next step.

2.25 years is the longest I've ever been with a company.

I suppose I'm technically a millennial, but I was born in the mid 80sm

same on all counts. in IT, there are just too many incentives to not stay longer than a couple years. there was one company i wanted to stay with, but they weren't able to keep me on past contract.

Millennials will work for many different companies as life long careers will be a thing of the past soon

They'll also work remotely and work far fewer hours than previous generations.

I’ve changed jobs 4 times in my life. Once was changing part time jobs in college. I’m 27.

I’m happy where I’m at and making great money with full benefits. Doubt I leave unless I get an even better offer, company goes under, or I get fired. I’m 3rd in line of succession for president/ceo so I plan on staying long term.

Nice. That's like my wife's dad. Air force and he's close to being forced out at FedEx. He's a captain on a 777 going internationally. I assume he has so much fricking cash stocked up that it's ridiculous. Very frugal and very big into saving, investing, etc...

Companies don't provide incentive for loyalty anymore by removing pensions, etc.

Then they question why people leave.

They don't question. The term is new contract.

The only reason employees stayed with companies for so long in the past is because they offered pensions.

Most don’t offer pensions anymore like they used to. So employees don’t have the same incentive to stay. And I don’t blame them.

Who wants to deal with the same idiotic baby boomers for an entire career? Those mother frickers are never going to retire.

That's proving not to be true, actually, and it's starting to bifurcate by the type of job you have.

Millennials and younger Xers in jobs that require college education and terminal degrees are working more than their forebears. Blue collar workers are working less and have more leisure time.

probably does, that's a pretty good company, plus getting mil pension on top of all of that(which is probably play money for him by now,) good for him

Most of the ones I am dealing with are way past their prime, ineffective, but have other idiotic baby boomers for bosses who cover for them. The part about their job that they enjoy is visiting while the rest of us do all the work.

What incentives do people have to stay? All professional companies offer basically the same benefits. If another job is more interesting, has better growth potential, gives you a better title, offers more money, or increases your quality of life, it makes sense to leave.

Why stay at a company that doesn't do anything to retain you?
