Did anyone mention Santana yet? Any time we were doing something in class that wasn't lecture that was all he would spin. This is tough to read back on, turly an awesome guy that was loved by all of his students.

Several years after graduating I still find that I try imitating his sarcastic and pseudo a-hole persona. But no one can do it like he did. The mark of a truly great sarcastic a-hole is when no one knows if you are being serious. In his class you didn't know whether to laugh or soil your pants. A few Sollie-isms I will always remember are "battry", "Tiko, Tycho, otherwise known as Taco Brahe", and "have a mediocre day, gentlemen". Its amazing to think how many people he influenced in his time at CHS. Catholic won't be the same without him.

When I was a sophomore, Mr Stephenson convinced me to go ask Mr Sollie to borrow his slide rule. I had no idea it was his giant one that he had hung on the wall. Basically Stephenson sent me over there so that Sollie could yell at me
Stephenson was the best teacher I ever had. Nice guy, but if you fricked with him, he went into drill sergeant mode - which was pretty damn funny as long as it wasn't you.
Never had any classes with Sollie, but saw him in '11 at the 10 year reunion. He was still the same as I remembered him. He'll definitely be missed.

Anyone know if there will be a wake? Would like to attend if it is public.

this. Stephenson would kick someone out of class and yell at them and slam the door, then turn around and laugh at how mean he was to the guy. I loved that class.
I was in his very first class he taught at CHS so no one knew he liked to get in people's asses like he did. He dragged one guy to the back of the class (the guy was about 3 inches taller than Stephenson) and told him to bend down to his eye level so he could chew his arse. Watching some 6'4" basketball player half squatting and getting reamed was pretty goddamn hilarious. No one got out of line for a while after that.

I am trying to remember when he got to CHS. I believe he was there when I was (maybe my senior year), I just never had any classes with him

Had him for honors physics. Taking the final exam and everyone is flying through it and I still have a long way to go. Everyone else but me is finished, he walks by my desk and says "uh-huh" in passing. I'm sweating trying to finish this final and wondering how everyone else was done already. He lets me go for another what seems like an eternity but I'm sure it was only 10-15 minutes and finally says something like "you know you don't get bonus points for doing all the problems, right?"
I didn't read the directions. Only had to do 3 of 5 problems from the last few sections. He made me feel like an idiot. Was the best teacher I had at CHS.

He was always about reading the directions. I remember on one test in the directions it said to draw a check mark to the left of each question after you finish. A bunch of the guys didn't draw the checks (a lot of them were the smarter ones in the class) and got points deducted for each check

I remember one of his test he put a question on it with the entire problem statement in French and acted like it was nothing out of the ordinary.. Probably because it wasn't

'01 grad?
Mr. Sollie was a great teacher. Sad news. He was the only teacher at my classes 10 year reunion.
