For All Catholic High Grads: Greg Sollie Passed Away Tonight -Funeral Info Added
Posted by TigersSEC2010 on 1/23/15 at 12:28 am

He apparently died of a heart attack this evening after going home following the end of school day. Man was a giant. His presence will be missed.
Update:
Funeral arrangements for Greg Sollie have been set for Tuesday, January 27 in the Catholic High School Gym. Visitation will be held 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. and services will begin at 6 p.m. with Brother Ray Hebert, SC presiding. A reception will follow in the CHS Union.

Damn, that's sad to hear. He was my favorite teacher. One of the few that actually gave a shite about the subject enough to make it interesting.

Sad day. He was a phenomenal teacher. Golden Bear material.

Really awful. He was a character and a sincerely good guy.

Such a great guy. Every time me and my friends would bring him up we'd go on for hours about stories from his class. Can't believe he was taken so soon. This one is hitting me hard.

I used to love when someone would fall asleep in his class. He was slap the ever living shite out of their desk with one of his rulers. Good stuff.

My favorite was when someone would drop a pen in his class. He'd make a big deal out of bending over to pick it up with his bad back. Then proceed to throw your pen away

Whenever he was asked how tall he was he would answer in centimeters.

Yeah he was hilarious. Would hum footballs at kid's faces before asking them questions and flat out pick on kids. Huge Saints fan and I had him the year we won the Super Bowl.
Just an overall really involved guy as well...he would always run the Habitat for Humanity project, apparently he helped run the robotics team, did the DC trip, was obviously a HS basketball referee, worked on the school grounds, etc. Someone on a facebook post I saw said he was the only teacher that came to his 10-yr reunion. He gave a lot to the school and his community and it's such a shame he went before his time.

When I was a sophomore, Mr Stephenson convinced me to go ask Mr Sollie to borrow his slide rule. I had no idea it was his giant one that he had hung on the wall. Basically Stephenson sent me over there so that Sollie could yell at me
Sollie was also the best at giving students random crap when their teacher sent them to the workroom to pick stuff up.

Once during class he tossed me a foam football with some sensor inside and told me to throw it back to him. Well because of the sensor inside the weight was way off balance so when I threw it back, I missed badly. His response was "nice throw, Jordan Jefferson"
But yeah, talking to him off campus was so different than in class. Just a genuine great guy. Definition of a gentle giant.

Best teacher I had at CHS, and it's not even close.
He sawed one of my classmates' binder in half whemever he went to the bathroom. All class Sollie was letting people go to the bathroom, but just to mess with this kid he told him no. So when the kid went anyway, Sollie had no choice but to break out the saw

Anytime a student came back with a bowling pen, we knew who it was
