My kids got me a Benchmade Mini Griptillian for Fathers Day a few years ago and I've carried it since.

Get him a classic Case trapper pocket knife or maybe a Boker Tree Brand pocket knife.

I carry a Case xx Trapper, just like my dad and papaw. It doesn’t have a lock blade.

Several great ones already listed, but I'll add one of my favorite pocket knives, the SpyderCo Delica with emerson opener

https://www.amazon.com/Spyderco-Delica-Emerson-Opener-Folding/dp/B076BXTBKY

Carried one of these every day for about five years before a cousin trashed the tip "helping" me sharpen it. Still use it on occasion. The emerson opener was my favorite part about it

Case trapper
My daily carry. Use it to notch out sheetrock, clean my fingernails, and cut up sausage. And everything in between. $50 for a regular stainless blade. Probably up to $200 depending on the handle.

In my pocket. I bought it in 1983. I have carried on and off over the decades. I have several knives but it is my favorite pocket knife.

On my desk for years. I use it every day to open mail or on my finger nails or to open boxes.

Bought this mudbug a couple of years ago on the recommendation of some poster here. I like it but it is big and I carry it mostly around the farm and hunting and fishing. I have a belt holster for it too. It is a great knife

And if that’s a bit too much for you, the R2 D2 is a very popular one as well.

Benchmade Bugout is a favorite of mine. Not very expensive.

This reminded me that I’m on the O-T with dem ballers spending $200 on a pocket knife. I myself have a benchmade bugout but I would never describe it as “not very expensive” it is however an incredibly awesome edc.

Spyderco Delica or dragonfly are both awesome as well if you don’t wanna splurge on the benchmade. Benchmade and Spyderco are probably the 2 best in the business and are direct competitors with one another. That being said I love Kershaw as well and at their price point the steel is hard to beat.
