A Florida high school student was arrested Tuesday (Feb. 20) for carrying a cell phone case that looked like a handgun, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
Acting on a tip from a student at DeLand High School, police found the 15-year-old student in question, who was in possession of a pink cellphone case that resembled a pistol, the report said. He told police he ordered the case online for him and his girlfriend.
"[The student] stated he knew bringing the case to school was a mistake and he was just doing it as a fashion trend with his girlfriend," story said, citing an arrest affidavit.

Technically, theres nothing wrong with it, I guess. but the entire country is on alert following the Parkland shooting. Now is not the time to walk around school pretending you have a gun.

Ban cell phone cases.

So he was arrested because he came to school with plastic in the wrong shape?
It's not a gun.
I mean, I can understand the school telling him not to bring something like that on campus... but why was he arrested? What was the crime?

I'm not sure we should be arresting people for not having tact.
It was a stupid move but damn my high school (and college) years were filled with stupid moves.

Being arrested for it is overboard but a student should definitely be suspended for bringing that school

The student is facing a disruption of educational institute charge. He was released to his parents.
Whoever saw this pink cellphone case is an arse for telling on him. Whoever put the school on lockdown for a kid having a pink cell phone case is an idiot.
Arresting him for having a pink case that looked like that is a moronic move.

Regardless of whether it's a cell phone case or not, you can't expect to bring anything shaped like a weapon to a school and expect it to end well. Honestly, schools should enforce things like to this almost over the line to protect kids, even if its from other kids who just don't think before they act.
Let's say crazy worst case scenario there happens to be a policeman on campus for an event. They see someone pull this out thinking they're trying to disguise a weapon and the situation escalates to shots being fired.
All that because someone thought it was a good idea to bring that to school.
Regardless of anything said above, how the hell do you carry that? It's not fitting in a pocket.

Stupid thing to do especially in light of recent events

What purpose does that case even serve? Seems extremely inconvenient.

So What was he arrested for?
Can you get arrested for a piece of plastic that "looks like" a gun?

At this time I feel that this action is akin to shouting fire in a theater.

I agree. Why was he arrested? Is there a law against this?
