It is cruel to the horse. That many people, the loud music, and a floor that it can't grip comfortably on. If it falls and breaks two legs , it will be put down most likely. All because this idiot chose to act like a fricking retard. E

Those horses are extensively trained and desensitized and properly shod

Aspie, indeed they are. I just love the horses and cops in the equestrian divisions.

This is favorite video of a NOPD mounted officer and his horse dancing at a parade.

It's reportedly Officer Jones and his horse Ace.

Great article about the horses and their officers and how they train. LINK

They also act as a kind of police-community liaison, because people in general like the sight of a horse and pay attention to a person on that horse.

“A policeman sitting in a car is kind of a sinister presence, and they’ve got the guns and you worry they might react to you knocking on the window,” Mr. Roth explained.

Sergeant Catalanotto added that horses are good for community relations. “If you’ve got a kid, put him up there and let them take a picture,” he said. “You know, maybe he might grow up to go ‘Hey, the police are really not that bad.’”

They are also excellent in crowded situations such as Mardi Gras and the French Quarter because they allow the officer to have a vantage point over the crows so he can see farther.
