I went close down all of my paperwork l/classroom and “prepared as if we are not coming back.”

Here's the youtube link to De Santis' press conference: LINK

Starts at 9:25

Although he doesn't explicitly say that physical schools are done this academic year, everything he says after he says testing is canceled indicates that the in-person school year is done.

All unused school money for this year will be dedicated to buying poor students' electronic devices and internet.

Texas Governor waived all State testing requirements the other day, but nobody has officially said that the STAAR test is not going to happen this year. My understanding is that the State is still waiting on word from the Federal government about waiving Federal testing requirements.

The little shits should have this break as their “summer”. Everyone come back in 3 months and finish the year during June, July, and August. Then start the next grade immediately.

School TESTING has been cancelled. That does not mean school has been cancelled.

It seems to me the in person year is done, although one of the persons in the Q&A session says school is planning a restart April 15. Nonetheless, the actions De Santis lists indicate that the year may indeed be done.

It was a poorly worded press conference, which invites different interpretations. All the more reason, English and writing need more emphasis in our schools.

He said they can now take unused funds from the 2019/20 school year and allocate them to other projects. Sure sounds like the year is done.

The Fed only requires that we test kids once in elementary and once in middle school. States like Louisiana are over testing kids.

Where are you seeing the rest of the year? All news says mid April

Although frankly schools just need to decide rather that continued pushes of dates

What can’t they just move to correspondence or e-learning courses? That’s a lot of school to miss.

As a teacher I’d be all for this.

I’m two days in on corona break and I’m already getting stir crazy and depressed. My wife won’t go to the beach because we’ll die there or something so we’re just at home with the kids.

Give me a glimmer of hope for the near future. August is too far away. I need to know when I can go back to being productive.

He actually cancelled all of the standardized testing for k-12 and extended the closures of schools until 4/15. Students will not have to repeat for not taking the test but may if the parent decides. During this time they will attempt to find forms of alternative education (online or remote lesson delivery) in case the remainder of the year will be cancelled. They are also working on online or alternative education for the time currently being missed.
