re: Flashing yellow arrow traffic lights in BR

There was literally no reason to spend millions of dollars to replace lights with solid green lights with ones with blinking yellow arrows. They mean the same thing. Did not change traffic.
Except half the intersections in BR do NOT have that set up. It was either Green Arrow or red. You were not allowed to turn left if traffic allowed it, you could only turn on the green arrow.

I guess they changed this because idiots thought they could take a left turn on green because “the light was green”
From TXDOT

The new fl ashing yellow arrow provides a more direct message than the traditional circular green indication for turns. It reduces confusion because the turn lane display is no longer the same indication as the adjacent thru lanes.

If both streets are one way as I understand it.

I’ll concede that I live my life in a bubble in BR and you guys might be right. All of the lights changed in my bubble had the solid green left. Maybe there are a lot of intersections I don’t drive through that didn’t have it and are now improved.
But, I do still believe that most “relatively major” intersections that actually affect large amounts of traffic previously had the solid green left. And those are also the intersections where there were wrecks because of the solid green.

The responses in this thread tell me all I need to know. Traffic in BR will never improve as long as its drivers are this dumb. Flashing yellows are all over Texas. If it’s flashing, and the road is clear, make the turn. It’s not that complicated.
The issue is they put all these lights up and there was very little public education at the time. People didn’t know what one meant.
Then there’s the money angle. All over town we see cameras going up, signals replaced, new signals all at a time when wd cangg TV pay enough cops, we can’t pay for a storm water plan, and they raise our rate to pick up garbage.
We don’t prioritize spending.

All the ones on Perkins that have been changed had the solid green for sure.
What’s dumb is the light turns red briefly before the flashing yellow light.
Also thanks to LA DOTD for completely fricking up the lights at Perkins/Congress, Perkins/Quail, and Claycut/S. Foster. Great work guys.

People in Baton Rouge are so dumb. North Louisiana’s had flashing yellow left turn arrows for decades.
It’s the same thing as the old left turn green light without a protected green arrow when you have to yield to oncoming traffic.

All are bad, but this one is the most aggravating. There is entirely too much time afforded to the turning lanes and Congress/Rouzan traffic.

When it turns to two green arrows with a total of zero cars in the turning lanes my son learns new words

My aggravation is here - in general i'm supportive of the efforts to improve flow. But the timing is off here - someone should not turn onto Perkins from Pollard only to met with a red light at Congress. Those turns should be synchronized.

Man.. Can’t believe I left this one off my list of ways we could have better spent money. This might affect me more than crime or public schooling.

In more traffic rules you can turn left on red if you are on a one way turning on to another one way!

Have had dipshits going crazy cussing me out and honking and yelling at me in that situation before because they didn't realize I was turning left on a green arrow.
