Think there was a slow down because the head of the DOTD decided he was fit to run for governor. Several big projects are delayed

Yeah, unless they somehow find a way to bypass the heart of Plaquemine, it makes zero sense.
Yep. And its almost impossible to build a Plaquemine Loop (I cant believe I just typed Plaquemine Loop) without displacing large areas of existing housing and adding 15 miles of virgin road.
Or, you continue the west side of the bridge highway/interstate thru 25 miles of cane field and swamp to tie in with I-10 in Grosse Tete, bypassing Brusly/Addis. And would have to cross both Bayou Plaquemine and the Intracoastal (with a major bridge). And all of this is before you even begin to tackle the major headache, which is the east side of the river.
It might be the single dumbest idea in Louisiana road building history. It will easily be the most costly when/if completed.

The proposed locations of the Mississippi River crossings are mind-blowingly dumb. The amount of work that will have to be done to Hwy 1 and Hwy30 to encourage any traffic to take that route is probably as complicated, expensive, and as time consuming as building the bridge itself.
yes, but those people who own the property, are well connected to the right people, so even if it costs an extra billion to make them richer, that is where it will be built. its not about the most practical or the most efficient way to do it.

The bridge location works if Louisiana connects it to I-10 on both ends with controlled access freeway but it would take Louisiana 50 years to do that.
Need to make LA30 controlled access freeway from south of LSU's campus to I-10 in Gonzales. Then make LA1 controlled access from the new controlled access 415 connector to the new Mississippi River bridge in Plaquemine and you have your southern loop of Baton Rouge from I-10/415-Lobdell to I-10/LA30-Gonzales and a spur into Baton Rouge.

Is this a culture problem? Why does Louisiana put up with this? How can those of us that care actually push for progress here?
Those will each require a separate study. Estimated time for an answer: 27 years.

That red loop you drew around Plaquemine will have to have a larger apex and take 20 years in itself. Hell just the distance from the river to that point where it starts at Hwy 1 is over 8 miles. Putting it south of Plaquemine kills the entire project. At 55 years old, I am 100% assured of being right or will be long dead before proven wrong.

Prayers sent. I think every one of my family that was from there has either died off or moved away (or both).
While I hate the potential location of the bridge (when looking at it as part of a loop), I hope that if the bridge goes down there it can help revitalize some of those areas.

Why is everything involving LADOTD such a massive disappointment? Anything the state needs takes so much longer than it has to.

Not bad, but the diversion from LA 1 would need to start a little farther north to keep the traffic from having to deal with where the train tracks cross LA 1 at Dow (and go west of Shintech).
It would do some good, but mainly for the I-10 traffic. 12 would still be a shitshow (at least until a lot of baws moved from Livingston parish to WBR/Iberville).

Right?

LMAO. Practically in White Castle. Literally closer to the Sunshine Bridge than the BR bridge. Not only does Highway 1 split going thru Plaquemine, it is 25 MPH in one stretch and already a complete clusterfrick on weekdays.
They absolutely will have to build a route around Plaquemine and link up to I-10 somewhere west of LA415.

Is this for a train station or something?
That's a tiny tow that has no train service currently. Why on earth do they need $25,000 for high speed rail?
Amtrak Map - nothing even going through that part of the state.

Why can't Covington pay for their own youth soccer association via local taxes like every other parish does?
Dammit there's millions of dollars in that bill that should be going to infrastructure maintenance and upkeep but instead are being spent on churches, private organizations, and weird projects that make no sense (like high speed rail in a tiny town with no passenger rail service). Why does our local media not put this out there? WTF??

Fun fact. You can get rid of the LADOTD lead very easily....but you'll have to elect him to governor to do it.

I'm strongly considering starting some kind of social media page just to track & highlight these kinds of things. I mean $1 million to something called Math Nation? WTF is that? Tea Time, LLC gets $25,000? All the money going to churches & fairs, tf?
This is all very clearly kickbacks and money funneling. Our elected officials know they've made it once they get elected because no one holds them accountable after that.

If they utilize none of LA 1, it will be 30 miles of open road thru cane fields and swamp. No one will use it get thru BR as it doesn't connect to I-12. By doing this, even less people will use it as it doesn't even get you to the populated areas along the west side of the river.
I would say it would be a money pit clusterfrick with no redeeming value, but moving the bridge south of Plaquemine already secured that designation.

A northern loop would make so much more sense. About 80% of truck traffic uses I-12 to bypass New Orleans.
