Flashback from 12 months ago: LADOTD narrowed down the new MRB routes to 3

And apparently went on a year long vacation since then, because there are still 3 possible crossings and no progress to report.
From May 2022: New Mississippi River bridge sites narrowed down to 3
Why is everything involving LADOTD such a massive disappointment? Anything the state needs takes so much longer than it has to.
- The new bridge replacement project in Lake Charles is still not even started. Funding to get this started has been secured. It's time to move forward.
- Work on the LA1 bridge over the Port Allen Lock has been halted and hasn't moved forward for months. They screwed up the foundation design and are being very slow with their updates.
- Work on the LA415 extension had to be replanned (okay I get that), but no progress in well over a year since that revelation. This was paid for in part by BP money - there's cash in hand to build this, and they aren't in a position to even start this for some reason.
- I-49 is still not finished through Acadiana. At this point those "future corridor" signs are historic. What the heck is taking so long here?
- Road maintenance statewide is a joke; with pavement quality, reflective stripes, lighting, and reflectors are nearly all worn or inadequate. Why LADOTD expects pavement to last 20 years with zero maintenance is beyond me.
- After years of talking, there's still very little work being done to widen I-10 in Baton Rouge. This should have be started 20 years ago. We are still waiting for basic safety upgrades and widening work to start.
- I-110 in Baton Rouge is still without shoulders, adequate lighting, and drainage. There aren't even plans to upgrade this. It floods every time there's a moderate rain storm.
- Lighting along our major highway routes are either non existent or the bulbs are burnt out and have been neglected for years. LADOTD + Entergy should be maintaining this; and that's a match made in bureaucratic hell.
Is this a culture problem? Why does Louisiana put up with this? How can those of us that care actually push for progress here?

They're 100% in the beginning phases

People in Louisiana generally don't give a frick about anything. Mediocrity/apathy is not only endemic but expected.

IIRC they've handed over their findings to the Federal Govt. And now the Feds have to do a 3-4yr study
Long story short, don't expect to see it built in your lifetime

It is an organizational structure problem. DOTD is way more centralized than most other DOTs around the country. This makes it very inefficient and prime for political interference. If you see a bad decision made at DOTD, it likely has some political direction tied to it. If you see something taking forever to get done at DOTD, it is because nobody is in charge and everyone has to agree before anything can happen.

I've lived in states where funding was never available to widen and improve routes. It's common as the country is growing and everything is expected to handle more traffic.
But Louisiana is the worst with maintenance. I don't know why. Citizens have to bitch to their elected officials to get some work done rather than the state entity responsible for maintenance actually just doing their job without being told.
Local governments are generally more proactive if you live outside of EBR, Caddo, or Orleans parish. The state is a constant problem here though. State roads and routes are in the worst shape by far around south Louisiana.

This is what happens when the process is more important than the results.

The proposed locations of the Mississippi River crossings are mind-blowingly dumb. The amount of work that will have to be done to Hwy 1 and Hwy30 to encourage any traffic to take that route is probably as complicated, expensive, and as time consuming as building the bridge itself.
Aside from the lack of apparent leadership - this is what really irritates me. Look at the proposed routes...you know that regardless of the bridge alignment, there will be more traffic on LA1 and on Highway 30. Why aren't we upgrading those roads in the red circles now?

...and that's where it will be 2 years from now too.

THIS times a thousand. They eliminated building a bridge next to the existing bridge in a matter of minutes. They said it was due to the location being unsatisfactory due to currents/barge traffic (even though there is an existing bridge literally right there).
But sure. It had nothing to do with being able to grift the process of building all the infrastructure associated with 30-60 miles of ROW and road construction involved with putting it down river.
You could double the width of I-10 to the split AND create a new I-12 corridor from Airline/I-12 exit to the newly constructed bridge for pennies on the dollar of their current plan(s). And do it in 1/20th the time it will take to complete the clusterfrick they have planned.

LMAO. Practically in White Castle. Literally closer to the Sunshine Bridge than the BR bridge. Not only does Highway 1 split going thru Plaquemine, it is 25 MPH in one stretch and already a complete clusterfrick on weekdays.
Behold your new loop Baton Rouge

Yeah, unless they somehow find a way to bypass the heart of Plaquemine, it makes zero sense.

A good place to start is paying attention to the bills proposed during session and voice your opinions to your legislators. Will it work? Probably not but I feel like if more people paid attention to the dumbshit our elected officials are focused on, just maybe we could make a tiny bit of progress.

We haven’t changed one bit since our ancestors were forced down here hundreds of years ago. Louisiana is what it’s always been and always will be, a shithole full of everyone’s trash.

progress? Why haven't you heard? You have to enter your date of birth to look at porn now. Our legislators on on top of it. (Pardon the pun).
