The stupidity of this board is in full swing. The actual tax collector says there is zero fiscal gain but they have to absorb the debt obligation and people are here posting “nah. Surely Disney will pay more

I think to biggest thing is now Reedy Creek gets rolled into the county tax base. And Reedy Creek is a very well off area. So now Disney has to go ask the county for infrastructure improvements which will get prioritized along with the other improvements in the county instead of just being able to do whatever they want. Which will cause problems for Disney.

Again, actions have consequences.

Just admit that you have a price tag on your child's innocence and would sell them out for a lower tax burden.

I would pay much higher taxes to protect my kids from sexual groomers.

Maybe that's just me.

Besides, excuse me if I don't completely trust the tax collector at this point. I'm going to let this play out before I trust any of that shite.

frick lying Disney.

Lol I don’t want Disney to leave to own the libs, I want them to leave bc they’re a nuisance. Airport is always hectic bc of Disney travelers, traffic is always horrible bc of Disney. And to top it off the parks suck. But saying the loss of revenue disney creates for the county would devastate our economy for decades is a huge exaggeration. Give me fricking break.

The airports are hectic because so many people travel there to visit Disney? The roads are crowded because people are driving to Disney? They are the largest private employer in central Florida and create so many jobs for other sectors of the economy. If Disney left countless hotels, restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues would close. Tens of thousands would be without jobs and tourism would drastically shrink. It would devastate Orange County and to pretend otherwise is disingenuous.

You live in Orlando? I'm assuming that you moved there after the park was open, if so?

Or a legislative action creating one... Maybe a special sales tax on any area with monorail service.

Cool. Let's see Disney up and move and succeed somewhere else.

You think the cost to the area would be tremendous? What about the cost to Disney?

I would LOVE see that play out. I don't think Disney could pull it off there days tbh.

Speech has consequences

It often does. There are 1st Amendment protections from government actions against free speech though, which is quite different from societal consequences.

So are we okay with state government punishing Disney for exercising free speech? The Supreme Court ruled in a terrible opinion that 1st Amendment rights did apply to corporations.

Regardless of this article having a lot of holes in regards to tax districts to mislead people I think the Governor will be fine.

Of the elected representatives covering at least part of Orange County:

4 Of 5 US Reps covering at least a part of Orange are Democrats.

All 3 State senators are Democrats

7 of 9 state reps are Democrats

14 of 15 county officials are Democrats including the property appraiser and the tax collector.

Trump only got just under 38% of vote in Orange County in 2020 and won Florida with 51% of the vote.

Only the school board appears to have some balance.

The district was created when Orange County was Republican, so you would think the Democrats that dominate these days would love the chance to have more control over the areas & taxes covered by Reedy Creek.

Like Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, China?

I think if push came to shove stakeholders in Florida would beg borrow and steal to get Disney to stay FWIW.

Explain how Florida has limited the Disney Corporation's free speech.

So are you admitting the Florida republicans are using their office for political retribution against a corporation? Seems like something true conservatives would adamantly oppose.
I like seeing conservatives actually fight for once.

Instead of getting shite on constantly, DeSantis is going on the offensive. The left doesn’t quite know how to handle this because for DECADES the right has avoided “stooping to their level” and just take nut shot after nut shot.

They aren’t.

Disney bit the hand that fed them. This isn’t retribution IMO for political speech.

This is Florida removing an advantage they temporarily gave Disney.

Getting rid of all those cheap shitty chain hotels and restaurants doesn’t sound like a bad idea. You ever been down I-drive here? It’s gross. Tear that crap down and put something that everyone can enjoy. People and business are moving here constantly. There’s a lot of opportunity. Disney isn’t what keeps Orange County going. Does it provide great revenue, yes. But there’s much more to central Fl than Mickey Mouse.
