“The child was in the restaurant having lunch with his family and doing what small children do, the child's 5 years old,” said Sgt. Pickard. “He wandered away from the table and was somehow able to get lodged in between the rotating floor and the wall and the table.”
When my kids were 5 they never wandered around a restaurant by themselves.

But what if the restaurant wanders around them? Just kidding, I feel the same way. I hate when parents give their kids free reign wherever they are.

I've been there too. It moves so slow.
Full rotation is said be an hour, time for a meal.

The kid easily could have wandered off after going to the restroom.
When I was 5, I would have been allowed to go the bathroom by myself at a place like that, nice restaurant at the top of a hotel. Now, I generally knew to come back, and that I better not wander off. Because if I did wander, I knew my arse was gonna be fire engine red from the spanking I would get. I also knew I would lose that little bit of freedom. However, I know I still wandered off once or twice despite the whippings.
Honestly, no one could be at blame here. Freak accidents do occur. My parents had some friends who took their 14 yr old son to a theme park(maybe Six Flags in ATL?), and they rode a roller coaster that went through a darkened tunnel. Their son went in alive, came out the other side dead from a broken neck. No one ever figured out what happened.

You know, shite like that happens. But in a restaurant with very few exits, and an open concept, the odds are extremely low. Plus, being on the top floor of a huge building makes kidnapping very difficult. My parents didn't let me go to the bathroom alone everywhere, only places they deemed safe enough. It's called discretion, when you use it wisely, it works.
But, to your point, when I was 13, a 45ish yr old guy asked me if I wanted a blow job as I was walking out of the bathroom in the mall. So I am well aware of what happens in the world.
Edit: I reported him to the first security/cop I saw, but nothing ever came of it to my knowledge. I don't think they ever found him.

I have eaten there. I really don't recall anything structural or mechanical at all.
Same here. I can't understand how this could happen.

In another freak accident in Atlanta last night, a valet hopped out of a car he was bringing around, let it roll into a group of 6 people, then hopped back in and hit the gas when he was trying to hit the brake

Strange and terrible story. It's one of the places we take guests to when they visit us in ATL. We were there once with a family friend who had a two year old boy and he kept running from the table and trying to lean against every segment of the window watching the room rotate. A manager came over and told us children have to remain at the table with their parents or at the viewing platform. There will be lawsuits. Some managers will get fired. However the family shoulders some responsibility for letting the kid run around unattended. For anyone who has been there you know it's a tightly packed dining area, so aside from running around leaning against the window as the floor moved under the child, the child was most certainly running into and around other people dining.
I'm not sure if there are signs up, I think there are because the manager pointed them out to is IIRC.

His parents should have been keeping an eye on him, how do you let a 5 yr old "wonder off" in a restaurant.

Horrible. I can't imagine how much shite I would have destroyed in that place. And that is if it wasn't my kid. People there must have broken everything then tried to wedge WHATEVER with anything.

Or maybe his parents could've actually been parents.
People that post this response always piss me off! Had to be the parents.Always passing judgement on other people. Were you there? Do you know the whole story? This does remind me about the kid dragged under by the alligator. How could the parents allow their son to wander? is all you heard? Terrible parents is what they were. shite happens man and their aint no parent that is perfect!
We all got stories usually in our childhoods that could have made our parents deemed the worst parents ever! or even current stories as parents with young kids.
What about the Ex NFL TE that just accidentally killed his 3 year old by running over her. Is he a terrible parent to? Kids sometimes put themselves in spots that could cause an accident.Luckily for most its never fatal.
I mean if this story deems that the parents were drinking at the bar and had no idea where their son was then fine their shitty parents but maybe they looked away or the kids slipped away for a second. Lets hold off on just blaming the parents immediately like so many do when things like this happen.

This, now they're going to expect the restaurant to pay up. How about the shitty parents pay up.
