They're going to get their jobs back.
I'm assuming the news released the absolutely most shocking! stuff they could find on the recording. If that is all they have, F King is writing some checks.

They never lost their jobs
They were given a "Letter of Caution" which is just LSUPD issuing something to satisfy WAFB and means nothing to their careers

Aaaah. My bad. Thought I read someone say that they were getting terminated.

I don't see an issue with that part of the conversation. It was blunt, but they had no idea the family would hear.
Do we want our investigators pussy footing around feelings during internal discussions about a crime?
There has to be more.

You guys would be amazed and appalled with how medical professionals talk to each other if y’all are bothered by those statements.

Gallows humor has always existed for a reason.
Should the family have heard it? No. Should the family realize that people who see this shite every single day have to make jokes to stay sane? Yes.

I know Kevin Scott and he is a damn good dude. He can be blunt but he really cares about doing the right thing and loves being a cop. I think if you recorded any police station, you'd have heard the same thing. I think it's unfortunate that the family heard this and it was a mistake but I don't think anyone should be reprimanded.

Known her a few years, this is definitely a stretch.

Anyone else find it strange that so many people on the OT know Sara Drake?
I know Sara Drake.
EDIT: And if that's all they said, their union representatives need to be all fricking over this to get it formally and publicly erased. They didn't do anything wrong, and they weren't interacting with the public. They did their fricking jobs.
If you want to point fingers, point fingers at the dead kid who had an illegal listening device. In Louisiana, it is illegal to record a conversation without the consent of at least one party to the conversation. His automatic recorder, therefore, constitutes a bug and recording the private police conversations without permission is criminally and civilly punishable. Sue his estate for the illegally recorded conversations.
See how inane that sounds? This whole thing sounds that inane and it needs to go away. And F King needs to be shot.

Summary of statute(s): Louisiana’s Electronic Surveillance Act bars the recording, interception, use or disclosure of any oral or telephonic communication by means of any mechanical or electronic device without the consent of at least one party to the conversation. The state also prohibits the recording and disclosure of images intercepted in violation of its video voyeurism laws. Violators can face both civil and criminal penalties.
The family, LSU and even the media could technically be sued for the “use or disclosure” of the tape that was recorded without their consent. Recording a convo without consent is illegal (but no one really did that here). However the use and disclosure of a recording made without ones consent is also illegal. I think the officers have a case here.

I have met each officer mentioned and I know two of them very well. Nothing they did was illegal. If there was no recording made, no one would have known. When you work these types of careers, you see all sorts of things. You have to find a way to cope. How they acted is human. It's a coping mechanism.
Unfortunately, I believe the family of the young man who committed suicide wanted LSUPD to drop everything to help find their adult son when he went missing after he left all of his personal belongings and allegedly even a note, and when they didn't, they became upset.
University police departments deal with a lot more than standard city police departments. They deal with parents calling in for kids who they haven't heard from who are just sleeping off the night before or doing the walk of shame the next morning. They deal with parking lot fender benders more than you think, stolen bicycles, idiot football players, uppity rich kids and the obvious drunk kids.
People need to sit down and realize there are bigger things in life than people talking on a scene to help them go home and see their families at night. If they didn't cope some how, there would be exponentially more law enforcement suicides than there already are, and there already are too many.

She's terrible. Her only role at WAFB right now is the liaison for the Tullier family, which anybody could do.
