Saw a tweet a while ago, his ex GF reportedly said he has had dreams about killing people for some time. Sounds like pure and simple derangement and a morbid fascination.
ETA Also read that he was enrolled in an online college and withdrew after a few months. Also was in a training program to be a prison guard and quit after a few months, no disciplinary issues.
