by KingshakaboobooI buy all my rubs from this guy at our local farmers market. They are terrific and I get very specific and different ones for different proteins. He has one that is absolutely perfect for smoked turkey. Unfortunately the packaging for all his rubs all look alike other than the name on the label. My dumbass grabbed the Bourbon BBQ Rib Rub instead of the one I intended. Didn’t realize it until bird was already on the smoker and I was cleaning up the kitchen from my prep. I have ruined Thanksgiving and I’ll never forgive myself. I have let down my wife, my children, and the entire Tigerdroppings meat smoking community. Please have mercy on my soul. Happy Thanksgiving to all. As much as we all bitch at each other on this site, I am truly thankful for the information, knowledge, and entertainment I get from interacting with each of you. Hope you all have a safe and happy time with your families.
You didn’t even say the name of the rub you were supposed to buy.

Maybe that rub dude’s secret is that they are all the same…just in different packaging so hipsters will buy several for their different proteins. Hold a good thought…your turkey will be great.

I’m sure they’ll love it.
There’s a reason we only eat turkey once a year

Cool story.
I decided to cook my turkey this year breast side down in an oven bag.
So hopefully my Turkey doesn’t end up like this:

yep, there's only so many combos, and if you look at the base, as you pointed out, they're pretty much the same, and they don't have that great of an impact beyond the surface of the "protein" (I can't stand the pretense of foodies when they use that word

that sounds delicious

We will await their post complaining about the turkey in the thanksgiving thread.

I don’t understand why you’re upset? That sounds absolutely amazing.

If a guest complains that the seasoning was not specific enough to the particular protein, kick their arse out of your house.

Cool your jets, Turkey is great in many different flavors . I left my 18 pounder out on the porch counter last night to defrost and the neighborhood possum chewed a leg off. I did some quick surgical reconstruction and told the wife the leg was removed to use in precooking the gravy. All is great, none of the 14 guests will know about the neighborhood possum. My seasoning is heavy dose of black pepper, garlic powder and salt. that's all

He calls it Honey Island Swamp Monster. Have no idea what all is in it but it is great on poultry.
He has another one called the Rougarou that I use on my briskets.
It’s a old couple that live in Sarepta,La.

we all understand the turducken approach to an exotic thanksgiving. But have you considered a gobblerpossum.

You may have made your family hungry for ribs. Worst case, they won't want turkey taste next year.
