Do some research, figure out tour price point and stick to your guns. Don't let them ask you how much you wanna pay month.

I don't like bartering, so if you are buying a new vehicle, I would recommend joining the Sams Club or Costco buying clubs and going through that method. In my experience, you can get a vehicle very slightly cheaper, but not worth spending days in the dealership, IMO.

Know your credit, budget, and trade in value.

Seem super interested .. get all the info .. shop around.

Last time I bought new ... I got mad about some part of the deal and started to walk out.. all of a sudden they sweetened the pot.

A lot more info on what you're interested in is needed to give good advice. Car? Truck? Price range?

+1

And get your financing in order before you negotiate a price. A good credit score helps with the interest rate.

Don't buy new. If you must buy new:

Get your financing in order before you start

If you don't know what vehicle you want test drive a few and make up your mind, along with options.

Research that car online and find out what the dealer invoice is with the options you want. Email several dealers within a radius that you are comfortable traveling to to pick up the vehicle and let them know you have the money and will pay dealer invoice for that specific car and the first one to reply back with a yes will get the sale.

Most will laugh at you, but if you've cast a wide enough net, one or two will agree. This works better during certain times of the year when it's a numbers game for them, they're willing to break even to hit a sales mark.

Walk in and tell them how much you can afford per month and that you don't care how many months you have to finance. Good luck!

I actually got a pretty good deal on my last car just because I kept stalling. I really wasn't sure if I wanted to buy the car. They kept coming back with lower and lower prices.

Buying a car is like getting laid. You can flash a lot of money or you can act like you're not interested until they are throwing themselves at you.
