A long time ago I read an article in Popular Science about making synthetic spider webs. The strength and elasticity of the stuff was off the charts.
One of the suggested uses for it was a giant slingshot type device that could sling stuff in to space.
It gave me the idea of using it to launch huge containers of garbage at the sun.
We got the biggest incinerator in the solar system right there, with its own gravity to help us hit the target.

I hope they succeed at a reasonable cost. It seems like a highly inefficient system they are using.
What is their carbon footprint to get what appears to be a relatively small amount of trash out of the ocean?

quote:
The Ocean Cleanup is a Dutch nonprofit that created a 600 meter-long floating tube that skims the surface of the water to catch plastic trash.
I could link thousands of small non-profits doing similar environmental work. They do FAR more than any of the world's gov'ts do.

Not trying to be a jerk, but...
they sent a ship to the Pacific that burns fossil fuel and somebody paid a crew that eats, poops, etc, in other words, pollutes...to collect 60 bags of trash?

poop isn't pollution unless you are eating plastic straws and drinking battery acid
