A looks more modern, B looks more traditional like it should be on a college campus

I actually agree. I barely can recognize that campus from when I was there just over 10 years ago and every time I see it I think how nice everything is but how expensive it is. College kids are not supposed to have the best of everything. I lived off of canned chili and natty light for heaven sake lol

Neither one is great, but B is the better option of the two. A looks like an Industrial Revolution factory without the smokestacks. Take B, put arches on the bottom columns and use the square windows on both sides of the smaller buildings instead of the slatted rectangle windows on one side. What function is served by having multiple smaller buildings?

One issue is all those top-level windows look out onto the roof of the adjacent building. That kinda sucks.

Take out Middleton to reopen the original quad, build the library elsewhere in the original style, but class it up a bit. Maybe where that Lockett Hall catastrophe is located, and make it adjacent to Hill Memorial. Problem solved.

Just don't repeat the Soviet-looking crap, like just what went up on Nicholson.

I don’t care for either one. Why can’t modern library architects borrow from architects of 300-150 years ago?

I don’t know that is a lot of white statues. Those getting a degree in the Offended Arts might need a rainbow sticker on them, some doing something rainbow sexual, and some of those statues to basically get blackface’d.

I do like older libraries like that, but the outside needs to fit the surrounding buildings or at be in same ballpark.

Back to the Drawing Board -- too much glass, too modern. Will be an eyesore in 20 years. Keep it classical! Dumb fricking modern architects are worthless

Sorry but this looks like a proper university library

I do understand no school is going to build one like that today.

As for the 2 plans B looks like what I expect to see driving up to a mid-priced hotel chain I have never heard of before.

This is the block between Forestry Ln, S Stadium Sr, Field House Dr, and S Campus Dr. The view is looking to the west, over Forestry towards Field House.

In the image in the OP tweet, the Engineering shops building is across S Campus Dr to the right (north), which connects to the scuplture garden, then Atkinson, then the Quad.

The Power House, Tiger Stadium, and Johnston are visible across Field House Dr (west) to the top right.

S Stadium Dr runs between the new library and the Facilities Services buildings (south). CEBA/PFT are out of frame to the bottom left of the image.

Tureaud, the newer Animal and Food Science, and Francioni Hall are at the bottom of the image across Forestry Ln (east).

It looks like the Dalrymple Building won't be torn down, but the EE Building, a few Vet Science buildings, and the Business and Technology Center will be removed to fit this library.
