Which is true? The letter he wrote to the UT President. The facts you cite? Or both? And what does it mean? Can a man be a national hero and a segregationist at the same time and how do we reconcile those facts?

Both can be true. Which shows that he made amends. But people like you think that everyone is absolutely one way or another. He fought integration at LSU, so he must be an evil man. Doesn't matter what he did before or after. And frankly I'm sick and tired of you cultural marxists tearing down landmarks to American Heroes.

Removing the Middleton and restoring the green space will look much better! Sometimes less is more.

I agree.

LSU campus architecture devolved in 1960s and 70s. Middleton, the Math and Science buildings stick out like sore thumbs. Totally out of place.

Pay attention to the roof lines?

Isn’t that the only difference?

We’re talking about roofs? Roofs?

Considering that one of the primary problems with the current library is the leaky roof, I would be in favor of whatever design most effectively directs rainwater off of the roof and away from the books.

Both of these designs direct rainwater into interior channels. Is there a better option?

Just below Atkinson in that photo is what we used to call “the old quad.” It had several walkways converging in the middle with some sort of symbol but I don’t remember what it was.

I had a friend who drove his car into the new quad at night before they blocked off access. Good times.

You presume a lot about me without having any facts.

It’s going to be huge - a good thing considering how many more students are there now.

They clearly do not want to build upward beyond 4-5 floors. IMO the right move is to go with what will blend in the most, which is B.

I definitely agree. The current library is obviously way outdated and is no longer big enough for a university the size of LSU. I hope this paves the way for renovations and/or rebuilding some of the buildings along S. Stadium because that stretch is a dump. New library is a nice start...

Neither look like a library. A looks like some try-too-hard first-year architect trying to go for edgy. B looks like a bunch of Monopoly hotels lined up.

It’s seems a little large. Have they heard of digital compression?

On a serious note I don’t like either design or the location. Should be where either Coats, Foster, or Hill Memorial is and match the exterior of the rest of the buildings (and include steel stall dividers in the men’s restrooms).

I tend to agree. It should look classical. I'm sure I'm not using the right term for the major architectural design of campus but y'all know what I mean.

Option B…but switch the square colonnade to the traditional arches and it’s a winner. Neither design really relates to current traditional campus architecture

Is LSU just bad at this? The west stadium, the business school, and this. The only building off the top of my head in the ballpark was the energy building south of the stadium. I'm sure there's another, I hope.

Either will be better than the eyesore that is currently the library.

The biggest offenders are Choppin Annex, Middleton, Lockett, Williams and Kirby Smith. We finally erased that off the earth.

Business school is at least somewhat related in terms of color and material. Even the courtyard design echoes the overall feel of the core of campus.

Hopefully we have a redesign because option A ain’t it and B needs some help.

Across the street from PFT. The new Science Building is already being built on the other side of Tureaud Hall. There are plans to build many new education building in the area and labeling it south quad. Tearing down Middleton and making it an open space. The Master Plan for campus is pretty cool.

The locations of the new buildings so far have been spot on with the 2017 Campus Master Plan. I linked it below.

What was wrong with LSU’s old library? As long as it did its job, which is to store books and give students a place to study, why was a new one needed?

when they built it they plopped it down in the middle of the Quad, and it was not consistent with the architecture of the other buildings. It really did look like crap.
