I'm sure some redneck has shot down 7 drones in his backyard before.

Military drones aren't the same as recreational drones, and I'm going on a limb and say he shot down military type drones, which are massive. Or at least, America's drones are huge

Could be wrong. Also, shooting a small recreational type drone while flying the 500+ mph is pretty impressive too

We never formally declared war on North Vietnam either….

Fun Fact:
The last formal declarations of war from the US were on the three Axis puppet states of Rumania, Bulgaria, and Hungary on June 4, 1942.

I grew up with him and played baseball with him till about 13 yrs old. His dad was a politician in Georgia. He used to go by Quinton but I guess changed names later in life to his middle name and what his dad went by. Pretty damn awesome even if they were unmanned

I had an amazing run. I had tours of duty in Germany, Italy, then Hungary. Lived like a king in Hungary. But it sucked my children did not who their grandparents or cousin were. . Growing up, my cousins were some of my best friends. Still are today. No regrets pulling it back, coming home. It was time.My wife wanted to stay in Italy forever. It just wasn’t practical at that time.

I don't know if they count a weather balloon as a kill, but Frank Luke got credited for 18 kills in WWI and that figure included about a dozen airships. His nickname was the balloon buster. I think Luke AFB in Arizona is named after him.

Lame. Drones don't even shoot back. It has to at least be sporting to get the title of an ace.

My late cousin (Dad’s 2nd cousin he grew up with, a few years older) was an “Ace” flying 3 tours in WW2 over Europe as bomber escort. Said the Germans were too busy shooting at the bombers to be dangerous to the fighters.

Also said he did the 3rd tour because the enemy was depleted and raw by the end of the air campaign and he REALLY wanted to fly the new P-51. If I remember correctly, he had 17 confirmed kills with another unconfirmed dozen or so.

Meh, shooting down unmanned drones does not make one an ace. Embarrassing.

That $40,000 hand-held “Black Hornet” drone looks like something you’d buy your kid for $20 from Walmart.
