It’s apparently a popular thing Mexicans do on Christmas Eve

Also when the daughter turns 15 and is old enough to marry uncle.

Commemorates the Star of Bethlehem, naturally.

Hell, I was at the grocery store and heard some redneck guy said they dropped $700 on some last night...so it's not just Mexicans.

People were shooting them off all last night.

And I was just informed that a late uncle of my in-laws had purchased a bunch before he died this year...so who knows.

I do enjoy explosions

I can attest to that living near the barrio. It’s annoying as frick and I hate it. It’s so fricking stupid to do that on a night that kids should be asleep.

I’m glad it’s raining arse this year.

I went to a nice little show at a baw's pond down the road from me last night. Haven't heard any tonight though.

It's Northwest Louisiana culture to fire bottle rockets on Christmas eve. The earliest German settlers didn't send Santa a change of address notification, so they fired Roman candles into the air to wave Santa down and bring some presents. A gross of bottle rockets is much cheaper, safer, and longer lasting than Roman candles and thus the natural progression of the tradition.

I'm at my stepmom's house in Western PA visiting for the holiday and about 20 minutes ago the people on the other side of the hill just started going rapid fire w/fireworks.

It's Christmas for Christ sake, not the fricking Fourth of July.

Only Catholics celebrate Christmas?
