Dear Audubon Family,
This is a sad day for our staff, volunteers, and you, our supporters who care about these animals so dearly.
I want to thank the animal staff who directly, quickly and safely handled this incident. The safety of all staff, guests and animals are our number one priority. I would also like to thank all staff and volunteers who sprang into action as soon as they were notified, to handle the continuing efforts around this incident.
We will be providing grief counseling to the staff that are in mourning to ensure they are supported as needed, at this time.
We are still investigating how this happened, and will be able to provide further clarity when the investigation is complete. The jaguar exhibit will be closed while repairs on the exhibit are underway. Both animals are receiving exceptional behind the scenes care.
More information about this tragic event can be found on the Audubon Newsroom.
Thank you always for your dedication to Audubon Nature Institute.

1. Grief counseling, ok.
2. Screw the zoo to do fundraisers, they want to raise money they have my attention with these events.

Grief counseling?
They should just throw a BBQ for the staffers who helped capture the jaguar and serve smoked alpaca

I’ve seen meaner jaguars on the quad.

Sounds like a gold star day for a jaguar in captivity if there ever was one.

Curious as to what the injured animals are
quote:
According to a press release posted on the Audubon Nature Institute’s website, an adult male jaguar escaped from its habitat around 7:20 a.m. Saturday morning. Animal care, veterinary staff and security managed to track down the jaguar inside of the zoo and sedate him around 8:15 a.m. The jaguar was then returned to its habitat.

Unfortunately, four alpaca, an emu and a fox were attacked and killed by the jaguar. Three other animals are being treated for injuries.

Another alpaca (Daisy) and two foxes (Copper and Rusty)
Apparently they are the faster alpaca and foxes.

They should charge more now to see the "Killer Jag".

Jaguar must really not like alpacas and foxes. Aren’t those exhibits a pretty good ways apart too? I know foxes are in the swamp area
Posted on 7/14/18 at 9:56 pm to Tiger Prawn
Those areas arent too far apart. The swamp area is right past the entrance to the South American part where the jaaag stays. I wish he would have gotten those a-hole monkies that are right there. The alpacas are the other way, but right there by the new bat house I think.
Something tells me he was out a good portion of the night though.

I love that after hunting for a while it went back to its lair.
It was a target rich environment.
Glad he got out once.
Bovado has it even money he kills again.
He's scoped out the whole place.
Of course they are looking into it. You'd need a lie detector.

There have been a lot of jokes about "it could have been me", but seriously, a big cat getting out of its enclosure is a huge threat.
This could have been waaaay worse. Heads should roll for this.
