Sorry for your loss. We love them so much.
Our Katrina rescue was one year old when we got him and he is still alive. 15.5 years old. He's a small dog but he can't hear a thing. He walks slow but still wants to play and eat. I'll be right there with you soon.

Ours was one of three puppies that the original rescuers decided to keep two of the three, but let us have the third.
Ours was a complete mutt, big dog with long shaggy fur. He was a nice dog, healthy up till he just got sick and died fairly quickly. He was a nice dog, never bothered anyone

Was talking to my brother today. He had to put down his old dog yesterday. Same dog that came live with me after Katrina. Was 17 years old. Bad thing was, when they came here, they had a very old dog around 15 that had to be put down due to blind, no hearing and was trying to bite everyone in the house. Was very sad for him to have to do that at the time.

Sorry to hear that. It's so sad when a pet dies. Losing a huge part of the family.

Yeah, putting down a loved pet really sucks. My brother-in-law went through the very same thing late last year when the puppy he rescued in N.O. before evacuating 4 days after Katrina took sick with a lot of cancer to her vital organs.

It was a hard thing for him to do, but he knew it was time since she had no hope to survive and would only get worse as each day passed. But even knowing that, it does take an emotional toll.

All you can do is remember all the good times spent with your much loved pet.

Thanks everyone... good hearts in this thread.

Like many of you, we kinda knew this day was near. Confirmation actually came from the other 3 large dogs in her pack. They've been by her side all day. They just sense these things somehow.

when they were pushing the poison into his vein and he kept licking my face.

Some skullworm dog dumper dumped a Great Dane out on I 49. It had a very bad hip and no one could approach it (and it was suffering in the hot July sun). Sheriff's deputy came by and we knew what had to be done.

The dog had been growling and barking, but when the shot hit, it started whining and wagging its tail during the few seconds it had remaining.

I truly wish death upon dog dumpers.

Sounds like ol’girl has had a good life with you and your family. You’re doing the right thing even though it’s tough to do. I’ve had one that died of old age and natural causes & one we’ve had to put down. I regret not putting the one down that died naturally & I hope he felt no pain in passing. One things for sure with putting one down, they are comfortable going to their field of dreams.
My condolences to you and your family.
Rest easy girl.
