With Cortana zoned for open container usage, making a Music Pavilion (no rap) or even a raceway could be a potential revitalization.

The key is the open container zoning.

All the Wild Mouse stories are true. I personally got my head chopped off on it.

First ever State Fair I went to was the corner of Florida and Airline. Pre-Cortana of course.

And the first job I ever had, where I received a W-2, was Fun Fair Park (or Un-Fair Park as we called it).

“ I went and did a walkthrough of Cortana mall a couple months ago just for old times sake, and it was a really cool experience. Not much left in there, but still lit up, A/C kicking, music playing, just like all humans got abducted and I was the only one left. Hurry and go do this, if you like these sentimental sort of things. Highly recommend.”

I always thought someone actually did die on that ride...or is that just a local myth?

Myth. But boy, was it a good one.

What even made it more spooky and believable was that when the other rides were packed up and moved to Dixie Landing, the Wild Mouse was abandoned in place. Soon, the grass and tall weeds grew through the thing for a good while. Children’s birthday parties were still held under the covered section while the adults gazed over at the old “death trap” and shared all the stories and tall tales. Such good stuff. I miss it....

built the ride, it was “Wild Maus”-

Here’s its sibling in Vienna from my visit there last year-

Yep. Smart folks too. I read a real cool story about the design of the Wild Mouse. It talked about the oversized cars and how the car fit so loosely on the track which gave it that rickety feel. Also how the track just immediately curved and didn’t have any gradual lead-up to it. And there were sections of “trick-track” which were the small vertical humps that made you pop up a little in your seat.
It was quite a scare when you’re about seven years old and with every turn you think for sure you’re flying off the track.

The BR State Fair was set up there before the Mall was built iirc.

That fair was awesome. Traffic wasn't bad, they had cool games and rides, and some big name musicians performing. When it moved down Airline, the traffic would back up for miles in all directions.

I'm really going to show my age on this thread, but I remember when the BR State Fair was held at the corner of Evangeline Street and Airline Hwy.

My understanding is that Dillards owns its lot and building and is not included in the shutdown. That doesn't mean they won't close, just that they don't have to as a part of this closure notice.

I've ridden rollercoasters all over the place, and to this day, the Wild Mouse is the scariest one I've ever been on. The first time I rode it, I was crying by the time it was over (I was about 10, maybe 1981?) Rode it a bunch more over the years, all the while I was going to Astroworld and the like, and I was always amazed how the biggest, scariest ride in the place didn't begin to terrify me like the Mouse. With the Wild Mouse, that feeling you were about to go off the edge just ate me a new a-hole.

Found out several years ago that there were Wild Mice all over the country. It was a design that a lot of smaller parks used.

It was a German coaster design that was very popular at smaller parks of that era.

Little known fact: the Disney Space Mountain coaster is essentially the Wild Mouse (Maus) coaster inside, in the dark.

I remember the State Fair being where the mid city airport once was (not sure if that’s the correct name). The area between Goodwood/Lobdell/E. Airport. Early 70’s maybe.

Sounds perfect for Cortana. Have it be the setting of a show or movie where the mall gets destroyed in the end

They should turn it into a parkour and skate park.

Keep the Piccadilly’s though. I enjoyed many a square cod patty and heaping bowl of Jello cubes after buying school clothes or Christmas shopping. It was always a miserable experience, and is now inexplicably a fond memory.

Last Christmas I was shopping with my kids at mall of LA. That's what cortana looked like every weekend, and Christmas you could hardly find a place to park.
FWIW the only place I could park at MOL was the back of the huge Macy's parking lot. Never again.
