The article doesn't say what started the investigation, he may have turned her in for spite when she ended their "relationship". The relationship ended in October, 2022, and charges are just being filed. If that's the case, he's a POS. Maybe he just bragged about their relationship later to friends, and word got around, leading to him being questioned by the police.

A lot of school districts have an app that students and teachers use to communicate. Neither phone numbers are shown and the school receives all communications. This is a good way to allow students to ask questions about assignments or grade issues, etc., without giving either the ability to directly communicate like that. The school receiving the transcripts makes it highly unlikely it would be used for anything inappropriate.
