They allowed it in H-Town during Beryl
quote:
Because of extended power outages caused by Hurricane Beryl, Texans who purchased or rented generators between July 5 and July 20, 2024, in designated counties may be eligible for assistance under FEMA’s Individual Assistance Program. FEMA waived a requirement that applicants show that generators were purchased or rented to power a medically required piece of equipment, and applicants will not have to submit a statement from a medical services provider indicating that the generator is needed to power medically necessary equipment. Applicants must meet the conditions of eligibility for FEMA assistance, and: The applicant’s primary residence must be in a county designated for Individual Assistance for Hurricane Beryl. As of July 24, those counties are Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Jasper, Jackson, Jefferson, Liberty, Orange, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Polk, San Jacinto, Wharton and Walker. The generator must have been purchased or rented due to a disruption in electric utility service as a result of the disaster. The allowable award amount for generators is limited to the prevailing retail or rental rate for a 5.5 kw-sized generator, as identified by FEMA. The generator must have been purchased or rented no earlier than July 5, 2024, and no later than July 20, 2024. Applicants must provide an itemized receipt or equipment rental agreement for eligible expenses. The expense must not be covered by insurance or provided by any other source.

They did during Ida too. I got a whole home portable 12,000 gas/propane generator and fema reimbursed me $800 so I was out of pocket $200.

They are. But something interesting is that IRS filing relief is generally available only in disaster areas based on whether FEMA grants individual taxpayer relief to anyone in the area.
So these little programs will be around a while.

The social conservative populists are all for small government unless it benefits their wallet.

All you have to do is fill out the application:
1. What race do you identify as?

I had my whole home generator installed 2 weeks before Ida and it was worth every penny.
Anyone building a house 500k and up should at least have pre prepped site for a generator.

Derp. I have 3 generators and I bought them. Why in the frick do you need reimbursed for an item you should already own. Especially if you live in an area that has the potential for bad storms.
And holy shite, a few years ago, there were threads on how to get a generator or chainsaw from Lowe’s or Home Depot, file a reimbursement claim and then return the item for cash.
fricking bullshite. This is what we can't have nice things.

I saw so many of my "conservative" friends and coworkers stick their hand out for crap they didn't need, but were entitled to, after Katrina.

You can think of it as trying to receive some tax money back that was stolen from you. So it definitely wasn't free.
I tried the generator credit for Ida and got nothing.

What do I get if I just leave when the power man tells me it’s gonna be a few days?

To highlight the apparent hypocrisy?
If you're truly asking about why, then perhaps you're the target audience.
Lots of folks call themselves "libertarians" until Uncle Sam is chucking COVID checks over the fence.

If you're going to do it, don't do it yet. Gov. Landry hasn't requested Individual Assistance for the State, so the program that funds it hasn't been activated yet. I'm sure most of the Southeastern Parishes will get Individual Assistance in the next 48 hours, but I wouldn't jump the gun.
