[Fellow Old Baws] So I'm having shoulder surgery in under 12 hours... (end NSFW)

Thankfully not rotator cuff but they're going in to saw off the end of the left clavicle which is pinching the tendons and potentially causing a full tear of the RC. (It's an issue common with weightlifters and us old former football players.)
This will be my TENTH time completely under so my nervousness was minimal. Then I started getting bad omens popping up. Been on blood thinners since my 3rd back fusion 7 years ago so with bridging I'm stuck with shots. My stomach is one big bruise with certain spots shooting out blood. Issue 2, forgetting not to inject tonight until I already did. And the 3, a painful spot in my upper calf that I suspect is a small clot.
I really don't want to have done all these shots just for them to call off surgery because of a little clot. I also don't want to not mention it and have them make a decision in the OR that would make it worse. Looking for any fellow old timers who can provide a bit of wisdom.

Don’t care

Definitely mention the issues to them. You don’t want to do anything that causes the docs or the anesthesiologist to have surprises. They need to know in order to better take care of you. It’s in your interest to be totally upfront.
Side note, I’ve had two shoulder reconstructions, shoulder ligament replacements, had part of my clavicle sawed off, brackets and screws put in my shoulder. Recovery was a huge pain and burden. I still deal with constant pain and limited mobility in that shoulder. This all happened in my 30s. It’s not fun and my prayers go out to you.

Hope it’s your opposite hand....

You don't know what it is, just that it hurts. If it is a clot that breaks free during surgery, congrats on the stroke, heart attack, or possibly seeing the light.
Tell them.
Tell them.

If you have an active dvt you should definitely postpone. They can probably ultrasound the area this morning to see if it is a dvt or not. Those things can get a lot worse under anesthesia. No sense risking a PE.

Have had both shoulders cleaned out, then both replaced.
Still having an issue with my AC joint from deteriorating cartilage, so they are going in at year end and removing the end of the clavicle to give me some relief from the constant bone on bone pain. Steroid shots have made it livable but never last for more than a month or so.
Tell them about the possible clot, have them do what it takes to fix that issue and then reschedule shoulder op for a later date.
Oh....and stop being such a puss

Get your Doctor to switch you to Xarelto or Eliquis for your blood thinner.

Thanks guys. Surgery was delayed 3+ hours while they investigated. Turns out it was/is a blood clot but thankfully only superficial. Didn't even take him getting past "it's not a DVT so..." before I blurted out let's roll. I think most surgeons would postpone but thankful he went about and beyond starting a 2 hour surgery that began after 4. It took maybe 5 minutes to get into the OR and my last memory of it was having to grab the nurse's hand so the oxygen mask held a seal.
Worst thing THUS FAR is having it all slinged up. Best thing is it took me all of 10 seconds to figure out the best way tp use the bathroom. The worst WILL BE hours 49-72 waiting to shower fir the first time. Most annoying, the dang taste in my throat from the tube.

Careful, this is how transitioning starts.
Congrats on the successful surgery.

Got to go thru this tomorrow morning. Had a MILF put me down last time and she came by after smiling.

How have you old baws wrecked your shoulders so bad? I have shoulder issues but nothing like ya’ll talk about.

Just had surgery 5 weeks ago on a torn rotator cuff. Sleeping in a sling is by far the worst thing about it. Range of motion is coming back slowly with PT and supposed to get back to 100%.

So excited I got to shower for the first time since surgery and will be trying to sleep in bed tonight. My biggest fear is doing to much. I'm able to finger walk the wall so hopefully it doesn't freeze on me. Looks like he made 4 incisions from around 7-3... photos are interesting to say the least. Next big milestone is showering without wrapping my arm in plastic. At least there's not much to get excited about this weekend.
