Another consideration is that the Chicago archdiocese had 30% fraudulent claims.

Y’all kept comparing this to a company

It’s like even someone wins a lawsuit against the government.

Who pays? The government, or the taxpayers?

The diocese covered some of them up

I do, however, find it suspicious that a lot of the allegations come out right after a priest dies when he cant defend himself.

I assume most allegations are real but at least some are money grabs

This is a rare instance of a case where a class action settlement is the way to go.

Set aside a compensation fund and let those who were wronged file claims.

Archdiocese has spent $41 Million to date

I went into the wrong business. I should have gone to law school and became a bankruptcty attorney. That is almost 8 million a year and almost 22,000 dollars a day in legal fees or 2,700 dollars an hour for an attorney or group of attorneys for 8 hours a day for 365 days.

I wonder what the legal fees are for the claimants. Next thing you know the claimants are going to receive a gift certificate to a Saints pre season game or a Pelicans game while the claimant attorneys are going to get a free Benz or 2.

This is a gross misunderstanding of how punishment works. In its most simple form, punishment seeks to make the victims whole again and punish the criminal by making them give up a large piece of money or property.

You're describing revenge, not punishment.

When you can’t argue the facts, attack your opponent.

I’m guessing you were laid off from Jackson Hewitt until January, so we have to deal with more of your lack of useful thought

I have never understood the connection between sexual abuse and big damage payouts. Someone touched your wenis when you were young? That's a criminal matter. It's not like a guy promised to build you a swimming pool and ran off with your deposit, and you can now be made whole by getting your money (plus) back. It's totally different from that, and when you involve those big payouts you create perverse incentives and you frankly cheapen what it means to be abused.

Convince us, then. How does one translate wenis-touching into money? Is there some reason a guy whose wenis got touched should get $1,000,000 vs. $10,000 vs. $1,000,000,000? A jury might return any of those three numbers. Is there concrete guidance we can give people serving on those juries, or, as I suggested, is there no real correlation between big piles of cash and past illicit wenis-touching? I don't think what I wrote ws unreasonable. If you think the criminal penalties aren't harsh enough, make them more onerous. I don't oppose that, but I also don't see the connection to money.

41m in legal fees and no settlement after 5 years?

$157,000 per week for 5 years straight does sound kind of high.

Stop with the sky is falling rhetoric, the Vatican has plenty of cash. Also, you truly think all those evil people are long gone from the Catholic Church? I hope they have to pay every cent to the victims.

I guess you "people with brains" are too busy to actually answer what I asked, so I will try to do it for you.

Here's my attempt at a shitty answer:

"Yeah, bruh, sexual abuse is really bad, so if someone can show how someone else probably did it to them, that person should get a lot of money, like, whatever 12 random non-felons think a lot of money is... $90,000 is a lot of money, right? Or if that person who was perverted and shite but they're probably, like, dying and shite now, like, doesn't have a lot of money then maybe, like, their boss or their homeowners insurance should have to pay it... or, you know, like, society or the government?"

I started to write an example of an answer that, while I didn't agree with it, was at least good. But that's not really my job. What you see above is my summary of your argument, and improving on it is on you, not me.
