Buttigieg says feds have power to force airlines to hire more workers amid travel delays

The federal government could take action against U.S. airlines on behalf of customers, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said Saturday.

Many Americans have endured delays, cancelations, and other travel complications during the coronavirus pandemic, and in recent months, after many pandemic-related travel restrictions were lifted.

Following Buttigieg’s own flight being canceled, forcing him to drive from Washington to New York, he said his department has authority to enforce action against airlines that do not sufficiently maintain consumer-protection standards, potentially requiring them to hire more staff.

So Buttplug is inconvenienced and now is going to take it out on the airlines. Hate to tell him but there are so many factors that play into manning flights. It’s not as simple as hire more pilots & flight attendants!

As catastrophically bad as American Airlines has been in the last 5 months….this isn’t the right move.

How do you even begin to try to force airlines to do something like this? Force them to meet a preset percentage of new hires? Seems like a great way to throw thousands of undertrained or unqualified people into the industry

this administration is going to put Babylon Bee out of business.

So they’ve threatened to nationalize our energy sector and the airlines in the last week.

The last thing this country needs is this Administration's getting involved in a private industry sector like the airlines.

It'd be some bullshite quota hires, green and social score mandates effectively grounding the planes that do fly now.

WTF?

Who didn’t foresee this after mandatory vaccination requirements and termination without compliance?

Airline pilots, TSA agents, baggage handlers, and flight attendants lost their jobs.

FJB. And buttplug.

It was also during the time Congress was debating a trillion dollar infrastructure bill, and soon after he was appointed as one of the heads of a task force to investigate and ease the supply chain issues.

He took off for weeks and weeks during the most critical time his agency had seen in years.

But he wants to force airlines to hire a bunch of redundant employees because he’s too important to waste half a day because of a delayed or canceled flight.

No, the twit DIDN'T have to drive.

Twit could have taken a train. He may not know what they are, and may not know that the DC to NY train is a gem in the Amtrak Fleet, but there are probably a buttful of overpaid twits working in his dominion who are the ones running Amtrak.
