Two years ago I left my pajama bottoms on the floor. When I put them on in the morning I saw one drop to the floor. A few minutes later I felt something crawling along my leg inside the PJs. Yes, you guessed it, BRs. I think I got tagged twice. My house is relatively new custom home on a lake in East Texas. It is worth a bunch. No way I'd leave. What I did was put out sticky traps and deluge the attic with Fastcap Onslaught. I then brought in a pest control company. Some sticky traps had twenty spiders. One day I went into the walk in attic and I saw a couple scurrying about. After all the spraying and cleanup in the attic, there is little evidence they are up there. Interestingly, the sticky traps with the most spiders were the ones I put underneath the bed against the wall. I've now lived in houses in Edmond Ok and Youngsville LA where I occasionally saw BRs. They move about in the dark. I rarely see them in the day. I do not leave clothing like jeans or PJs that I intend to put on later on the floor anymore.

Until you inevitably wake up and see a BR under your covers.

I honestly don’t know that I would recognize a brown recluse if I saw one.

They tend to stay down at floor level. As I said, I think I've been tagged twice. But I will not move from my house due to spiders. I'd have to disclose anyway.

The baws who let them perch on their shoulders and arms or are good with wild ones building nest on/around their house have got to be some of the baddest SOBs around

Yes, Ive been bitten by a brown reclouse.

When I was rennovating a house, Every single Foundation Pier that we had to re do had nests upon nests of them.

Even the insectside spider spray didnt work on them.
Bengal did.
After I got bit which I didnt even notice until weeks later. It felt like a mass of dead cells below live skin, I dont know how to describe it, but it was on my leg between by ankle and knee about the size of a dime. It was like that for years. If you ran your finger over it it felt mushy where firm flesh once was.

I have never seen one in my house, but they have a tiny violin looking symbol right behind the head.

I got bit by a spider on my hand on Monday. Didn’t get a good look to see what kind it was. Have a decent sized welp with some puss still but it’ll be fine. No biggie

Never kill the Rusty Spider Wasp. It is your friend and is so hardwired to hunt spiders, especially wolf and other larger bodies spiders, that it doesn't even register you.

The only thing worse than a spider is a zombie spider.

I have a deal with spiders. The ones that want to build a little web and trap any bugs that get into the house are cool as long as they don’t get crazy with the web or get on the floor. If they’re on the floor its squash city.

Those hairy wolf spiders? Auto kill.

They are pretty nondescript. But once you've seen them and know what they are, you can ID them every time. Many years ago we built a small house in Youngsville, La. It was also out in the country and near some weedy lots. The construction people did a shitty job of cleaning up. Man I had black widows everywhere outside. They were in every weep hole in the bricks and around every hose reel. I tend to see BWs in most places I've been. And I've seen one tarantula crossing the road here this year.

You must be a city person.

Spiders eat mosquitos, flies (like bot flies), etc that harm livestock

Snakes eat rodents that contaminate feed

Yes, multiple times - last time in the house last summer

brown recluses

Maybe, know a neighbor across the street got bit 20 to 30 years ago and it was unpleasant but they survived

tarantulas

Had them as a kid and tied strings to them to scare little girls in grade school

This is the one I draw the line with!

As an aside…Ever notice how creatures with eight legs are all intelligent as shite? Octopi and spiders have some moxie for sure.

Put 1000 spiders in my underwear. Dry!

Put 1snake in my underwear drawer. Wet!

Fear…

Good luck with STEM degrees.

Do you realize that you could smash and scrape a spider into a gross streak on the ground with almost zero effort?

I can't believe no one has mentioned the invasive Joro Spider that's spreading across the U.S.
Native to southeast asia it likely arrived here in food containers from Vietnam or Thailand.
If you're a hiker or mountain biker in Louisiana you're familiar with the Golden Orb Spider aka Banana Spider that creates those huge webs that spread across forest trails. Well, the Joro is a Golden Orb on steroids.

I know a guy who bought an older house and after moving in found out it was infested with brown recluse spiders. They tried everything to get rid of them and failed. The insurance company finally came up with a solution that everyone on here always recommends. They burned the house to the ground. They actually paid him to build a new house.
