I got Bells Palsy in May. Never was sick or anything before

Good luck friends, it lurks around the dark corners.

Roughly 548 people got Bell’s palsy today. Another 548 or so will get it tomorrow

All without taking the covid 19 vaccine

Why does all the data only show somewhere between 40-60k get this each year?

You stating the population sample of 40K is misleading. The control group was ~20K and the experimental group was ~20K. These are independent population samples. So, the occurrence was 4/20K, which is still within the natural occurrence. But the placebo occurrence was 0/20K. Which is at least significant enough to warrant a recommendation.

only 3 of the occurrences got the vaccine, which means 1 received the placebo

so 3/20k and 1/20k

quote:

Throughout the safety follow-up period to date, there
were three reports of facial paralysis (Bell’s palsy) in the vaccine group and one in the placebo
group.

Because you are looking at the low end of the data range....

four reported cases of Bell's palsy among Moderna's 30,000 trial participants

So about the same amount of death in Under 50 healthy people with COVID? Yea...yall go ahead and get this vaccine, me and my antibodies will be fine without it.

In the pfizer trial, all 4 occurrences of Bell's Palsy were in the vaccine group.

Edit: The FDA briefing document stated 4 in vaccine group 0 in placebo group. If your numbers occurred after publication then that means it's 7 in vaccine group and 1 in placebo.

You are correct. Sorry.

Moderna had 1 with the placebo.

In the placebo group we would expect to see anywhere from 4 to 12 cases of Bells Palsy

But that’s the thing with something with a low incident rate in general, it’s random. Absolutely the FDA should continue Tom monitor anything and everything that presented itself during the trials.

But anyone worried, or finding significance with the current numbers, doesn’t understand statistics even at a middle school level

Statistically, yes.

Eventually.

This is why you don't take a rushed vaccine.

Do you know what caused it?

No clue. It just came and went, but left some permanent damage in my face so I don’t have a symmetrical smile unless I try really really hard because the side of my face the palsy paralyzed for a time still doesn’t respond quite the same way. My parents were scared to death by it thinking I had a brain tumor like my older brother had had around the same age.

My wife got this once. She was brushing her teeth one morning and started freaking, the frick out. The whole left side of her face wouldn't work. She was convinced she was having a stroke or something. We ended up in the emergency room where all the docs thought it was funny as hell, but we certainly didn't.

Anyway, it lasted for a couple of months if I recall. It was scary initially, but then the kids and I made fun of her incessantly.

Yeh, I would imagine something like that just happening out of the blue would be very anxiety inducing, or at least just the fact of having no idea wtf is going on with your face.
