Looks like random dude on twitter was on to something

The FDA said that there were four reported cases of Bell's palsy among Moderna's 30,000 trial participants, including three who got the vaccine.

The FDA's guidance for Moderna's vaccine issued Tuesday was similar to its guidance on Pfizer's vaccine last week.
quote:
U.S. Food and Drug Administration staff recommends monitoring people who get Pfizer or Moderna's Covid-19 vaccine shots for possible cases of Bell's palsy, saying it's not necessarily a side effect but worth watching out for after a handful of trial participants got the condition, which causes half of your face to droop.

4 people out of 30,000 developing bell's palsy is right in line with the normal incidence of the syndrome.
there is zero evidence the vaccine caused it.
when you gather 30,000 people, there is 100% chance on a certain timeline that medical issues will arise. that is a reflection of real life. medical issues don't stop because you take a vaccine for a specific virus.

Sucks to be the person who got Bell's Palsy but didn't get the vaccine. They were probably convinced that at least they were immune now.

Saw some meme about this a few days ago. That sounds awful, hopefully it isn't permanent.

So basically my odds of getting Bell’s palsy are about the same as dying from Covid.
How long for the pro-vaccine crowd to start saying “Yeah but at least you won’t die.”

It’s right in line with the normal incidence during one’s entire lifetime. These people just happened to get it right after getting the vaccine????
For your stat to be an apples to apples comparison, there would have to be a 4 in 30,000 occurrence WEEKLY, which isn’t the case.

1 out of 9,500 vaccine recipients got Bell’s palsy
1 out of 1,750 people in the general population get Bell’s palsy
If you want to try and make a definitive theory, the theory would be the vaccine helps prevent Bells Palsy

But you will start talking like this... “Stone Cold! Stone Cold! Stone Cold! Bah gawd he’s been broken in half!”

In the same period or over a lifetime?
I'd venture to say we have 10k somewhat active posters. You are saying that 5 if them have suffered from Bell's Palsy in the last 6 months?

You're right. They are just saying to randomly watch for some random disease that has nothing to do with the shot. Total coincidence...

1 out of 1,750 Americans get Bella palsy every year
1 out of 9,500 vaccine recipients got Bell’s palsy in a 9 month period
