He called on my gramps one time to invest in a seed company in yazoo in the early 60’s. Not sure if he left with any money but the meeting went well, happened in the living room one night.

Listened to so many Clower tapes when I was a kiddo that I can still recite the entire Ledbetter family: Ardel, Bernell, Raynel, W.L., Lenell, Odell Udell, Marcel...Claude, Neugene, and Clovis. And, Uncle Versy and Aunt Pet.
Can’t remember the name of someone I met yesterday, but that list sticks in my brain.

Justin Wilson is the Cajun comedian. I listen to his Pandora station, always has a good mix of Wilson, Jerry Clower, Lewis Grizzard, James Gregory, some Bill Engvall and Jeff Foxworthy as well as others mixed in. Even some old Andy Griffith standup.
Sounds like it’s the same as the Clower station. I always give a thumbs down to the dirty jokes so it’s filtered pretty well now. I can listen to it while working and not have to worry about offending anyone.

The one about molasses and biscuits, where Marcel's mama slaps him away from the table for not lickin' the knife off before stickin' it back in that butter. I think it's part of "The Graduate Returns"

My dad had every Jerry Clower cassette tape ever made. That’s what we’d listen to when we went on vacations. Solid thread. Tater on the moped is one of my favorites.

A favorite line of mine that’s often overlooked is the coon needs a fighting chance. He’s got the option of whopping all them dogs and walking away. Give him a fighting chance.

Listening to that one today led me to learn something I feel dumb for not already having known:
A bobcat is one of 4 types of Lynx, on is a bobcat. We used to see bobcats all the time in MS. My grandad shot one and had it stuffed. Lol.
But I also live near a protected lynx territory in Montana. And I just always assumed a lynx was a lynx. But the ones up there are actually Canada Lynx and are a good bit larger, and fluffier.
I'm really not sure how I'd missed that in the nearly 16 years I've lived there on and off.

Mine too and I still have them. Loved Jerry. RIP Jerry and Dad.

Loved Brother Dave Gardner, too. His humor was a little hipper than his audience back then.

I always liked the one about the fried chicken when the wind blew out the oil lamp. When Aunt Pet got the lamp lit there were five forks stuck out of the back of Uncle Versie's hand.

I think about him every time I pass the sign for Yazoo City on 55. I saw him a couple of times as a kid; he’d come to the tobacco auction in Lake City and do a few jokes.
Knock him down John was always my favorite.

quote:Lewis used to call Clemson "Auburn with a lake," and he called Auburn "Clemson without a lake." I 'spect you heard it before, but I'm sure you have an appreciation for that one. It was pure genious by Lewis 'cause he got a lick in at 2 of Georgia's biggest rivals at the time with one joke. Never mind Georgia has a department of "dirt farming" too. As a Dawg fan I miss the rivalry with Clemson. Used to have some real knockdown drag outs with the purple kitties. Some of the hardest hittin' games I ever saw. They are about 80 miles or so apart.
Lewis Grizzard was a national treasure.
Remember that bumper sticker that said "honk if you've been married to Lewis Grezzard?" There was always a lot of speculation as to how many times he had actually been married, and Lewis did nothing to discourage it. Another strok of genious.

I used to have the album that you played on a stereo. Clower had a good run late 70’s and eighties.

Found this of Lewis. Btw, this is the best thread I've read on TD in along time. We all need to laugh in these shitey times. Deo Vindice
