know we have some US History heavy hitters in the OT. What’s Madison’s story. He’s officially a Founding Father. But not much said about him. Was he just Thomas Jefferson’s sidekick? Gotta be more to it than that.
Madison is incredible - he was the chief author of the US Constitution (the second greatest legal document every written).
He did align with Jefferson on many things - both being classical liberals in the vein of John Locke.
Jefferson is the greatest to the point where it should not be disputed but Madison is Top Three.

-1st Secretary of State
-2nd VP
-3rd POTUS
-Louisiana Purchase
-Authored numerous other essays and writings
-Farmer
-Inventor
-Beat the Barbary Pirates’ arse
-Proponent for a limited federal government
-Against a centralized bank
-Countless other works and good deeds
-Looking back, a top 5 POTUS of all time, probably top 3.
All this, and today for all practical purposes, simply known as the man who impregnated Sally Hemings.
Never mind the fact that she maintained a near 40 year relationship, and twice rejected de facto emancipation by traveling abroad, and then only to follow Tommy's a$$ back to Monticello.
This country never was able to square the fact that for whatever reason Hemings seemed to enjoy the sexual company of a strapping, Southern planter savant.

One of my favorite quotes about Jefferson was from John F. Kennedy while addressing the Nobel Prize winners of the Western Hemisphere:
quote:
I want to tell you how welcome you are to the White House. I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House, with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.

So we agree that the Founders weren't much better than humans than the Barbary Pirates when it comes to peddling flesh. Despite the remarkable document ( Constitution) some of them drafted.
You can always take your sorry arse out of this nation.

Thomas Paine. His work was the intellectual nucleus of the revolution. Franklin himself said that Paine was more responsible for the Revolution than any other intellectual.
And he owned no slaves, so they can suck his shiny white balls.
ETA: I see this has been covered, by shoog of all people.

I am related to Washington, but he's not my favorite. I am more of a Franklin guy myself. He was a polymath, a genius. He invented the lightning rod, bifocals and the Franklin stove among other things. He was a political philosopher, a diplomat to France, spoke several languages, and was the founder of the University of Pennsylvania. He also was a newspaper man and had a hand in starting numerous newspapers in the colonies.
In his youth, Franklin was in an apprenticeship under the tutelage of his brother. Franklin decided to run away and was declared a fugitive. Franklin had 16 siblings. His dad was a busy man.
In his early 20's, Franklin banged some chick and had an illegitimate son named William. (No one knows today who William's mother was). Franklin raised William and William went on to be somewhat prominent in the colonies in his own right. During the Revolutionary War, William was a loyalist to the crown and refused to join the American side. This pissed off Ben and they never spoke again.

" You, Thomas Paine , are more responsible than any other living person on this continent for the creation of what are called the United States of America "- Ben Franklin
I don’t want to discount Paine’s contribution to the revolutionary cause, but I think Franklin was exaggerating.
Similar to this, from Abraham Lincoln:
quote:
when President Abraham Lincoln met Stowe in 1862, he reportedly said, “So this is the little lady who made this big war.”
Do you really think that the Civil War would have been avoided if not for Uncle Tom’s Cabin?

quote:
If this be treason, make the most of it.
- Patrick Henry
quote:
They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or the next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed, and when a British guard shall be stationed in every house? Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot? Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power.
Spiritually, I was born in the remains of Jefferson’s world. We are what is left of his vision.
