I just barely missed out on the rebooted GI Joe of the 80s. I was in that awkward in-between age where I was young enough to watch the cartoons and want the toys, but old enough that I’d be made fun of for playing with toys.

Sears Video Arcade was a rebadged Atari 2600, but came with a better game (I forget which one). Man I couldn’t sleep the night before. I played the shite out of that thing.

We got the Sears version one Christmas also. I want to say it came with either Air-Sea Battle or Space Invaders.

Train set. I think my dad even had more fun than me. We got super creative. Got a shoebox, sprayed it with foam sealer, then spray painted it brown/gray to look like a mountain with a tunnel. Used to love going to KB toys and picking out a new train car to add to the set. Trains are a really good hobby.

I was a punk arse, big nosed teen with braces and knew everything and my parents knew nothing.

They totally got me when my neighbor came over Christmas morning with a guitar case and pulled out a 12 string guitar and asked me how to play this because he thought Santa might've dropped it off at the wrong house.

It took about 30 sec for me to figure out as my parents were laughing... I couldn't believe it- they completely fooled me. I didn't ask for it, but I loved it (until I had to restring).

I ran upstairs to my bedroom learning all the hair metal ballads- Wait, When the Children Cry, etc..

Easily these two.

This was one of several sets. I still have the parts and the quality is stellar.

I had an NES but I more remember getting the SNES and plsying F-Zero on Christmas Day.

1979

to this day my heart still skips a beat when i think back on peeling a corner of the christmas paper back and seeing this

best santa gift ever to that point in my life.

THE TRUCKS CHANGED LANES!!

THEY HAD WORKING HEADLIGHTS AND MARKING LIGHTS!!

THAT DAMN AMBULANCE WOULD JAM UP WHEN YOU TRIED TO CHANGE LANES TO GET AROUND IT!

YOU'D GET SHOVED BY THE OTHER TRUCK INTO THE OFF ROAD CURVE AND NO HOPE OF COMING BACK.

oh sweet mary and joseph, this was the best car racing experience ever!
