I'm waiting on my car at the mechanic, killing time at Starbucks.

Father and son come in, get their coffee, sit down, and it's been 40 minutes so far and neither has said a word to each other, both just fiddling with their phones.

The dad looks late 30's-early 40's. The kid looks about 10 or 11.

For some reason this makes me sad.

I should just mind my own business.

They're probably texting each other.

Maybe they’re both mute.

Maybe they are deep in conversation via text in order to be courteous to others.

Speaking of Starbucks...

NAACP says Starbucks still needs racial bias training...

Every time I'm with someone else, I make an effort to stay off my phone unless necessary. It drives me crazy to be with someone and they're on the damn phone the entire time. It just makes it miserable.

Maybe they are ET's made to look like humans and are so advanced, they talk to each other using their minds only?

I wish more people would do this. I was at the dmv today, the Hispanics have no interpersonal skills what so ever. They will stand right above you, strike convo with other Spanish speaking friends and stream Spanish tv on their phone with no consideration to others. They make the cultcha look like Monks.

Well. They COULD be playing each other on a game app in their phones, bonding that way. But, point taken.

When the GF and I get married and have kids, we'll have some minimum family rules like playing at least one board game a week, sit-down dinner, and having no phones (or phone usage) when we go out to eat. Oh, and they'll be actively involved in at least one sport and/or extracurricular. Easier said than done when life starts getting in the way. But it's healthy and a way to keep your kids from distancing themselves and such.

It's the little things.

If available, this should always be your first choice.

I remember my life before reality.
