Any NELA folk know which company and/or identity of person? Can’t imagine any reason why identity should be withheld at this latter point.

Literally hate to hear it.

Interesting. I’m like you, was very curious due to knowing a couple guys in that field, so that scenario would seemingly rule them out. Not that it would detract from the sadness of the situation, of course.

Chainsaw accident up in the tree. That must have been a terrible scene.

It happened right by my house. Guy was up in the tree cutting somehow cut his arm off and was suspended in the tree. His coworkers couldn’t get to him and he bled out before the paramedics could get to him. Closed off the entire road and had to retrieve him from the tree. Terrible.

It is hard to wrap your mind around that situation. The co-workers, God bless them. Hopefully you didn’t come across the sight of it yourself.

Do you happen to know the name of the tree service?

Yeah Got Dang what a sight that must have been. Dude slashed himself suspended in air and hung there bleeding out and died still in the air

Working with a chainsaw off the ground like that is just asking for trouble even for someone who does it all the time for their job

Yep. While the co-workers, undoubtedly many n w state of shock and confusion, witnessed the entire thing. Save for some superhuman feats of strength and calmness I can’t think of anything offhand that they could have done, certainly not in those unimaginable circumstances.

Truly a horrific situation and tragedy.

**And you’re right, I guess it’s a wonder that it doesn’t happen much more often, although I’m obviously glad it doesn’t. Then again, it actually probably does and we just don’t know about it.

It was a small operation, based out of Columbia. I can’t remember the name but it had specialist in it. Maybe Southern Tree Specialists or something close to that.

After storms, I have watched arborists wielding those little top-handled saws and I wondered how several a day didn't end up in the ER.

One thing that scares the living shite out of me is cutting trees. When we cut trees from around the camp, I’m always the one doing the trimming once it’s down.

When it’s being cut down I’m the one standing the furthest away

Anyone who’s been around a tree getting cut, when that fricker hits the ground and the ground shakes, screw being near that thing, and screw those ones that kick back, and frick a widow maker.

Those professionals that know how to do it right get the upmost respect from me. Even they can't factor in every variable and eventually have an accident. I had a close call with a large limb that caught me in the lower back, while I was jumping off the ladder. No more chainsaw action for me

Not to be ghoulish, but I’m trying to figure out if the saw kicked back or how this poor soul did this? How’d he cut his arm off?

Damn. I wonder why he couldn’t rappell out with one hand? He must have lost consciousness immediately.

I rapp off the Petzel Zig Zag.

Even if I cut my arm off, I can still descend immediately, as long as I don’t pass out.

We also always have a second climber on site.
Prayers to all.

I've been cutting trees for years, but not professionally.

When my son or son-in-law ask to borrow my chain saw, the answer is NO. But I go cut it for them.

I use professionals frequently when the job is more than I feel comfortable with.
